Car history:
3) May 11, 2015.
2) Numbers Matching 427 3 Dueces Fully restored. Needs drivers rear view mirror and may need wiper door vacuum pump. Car is almost ready for show. 45,165 miles from the odometer. Sold for $34,000. Trim tag probably not original (should be K11 or 12). December 1, 2011.
1) This is a 1968 Corvette Convertible that I have owned and been restoring for the past 5 years. If you are looking for NCRS Top Flite or Bloomington Gold Corvette with a bunch of documentation, then this may not be the car for you. I do not have any owner history or documentation such as the window sticker or POP/warranty book for the car. Exterior: The body exterior was primed with 2 heavy coats of PPG K36 two-part primer to get the body prepped for painting. The body panels were made nice and straight, and the hood and door seams were gapped uniformly. It was then coated with PPG Rally Red base coat, topped with 4 coats of PPG 2021 clear, color sanded, and polished to a high shine. The paint is about one year old. I would rate it a 8-9 out of 10 with no major chips or problems. The paint code on the trim tag is 974. All of the chrome has been redone. Front and rear bumpers, bumperettes, and all exterior trim, handles, etc. is new or rechromed. The soft top is a new white Al Knoch vinyl top. There is no hard top with the car. The BF Goodrich radials are new 235's on 8 inch ralley rims. The outer rings and the derby caps are all original and are in great shape. The windshield is new, as well as the upper windshield chrome corner trim.
Interior: The interior has been completely refurbished with Al Knoch leather seat covers, new carpet set, and door panels. All of the trim was removed and cleaned, and replaced where needed. The interior code on the trim tag is 408. The car retains both Astro Ventilation side windows. In 1968, the seat headrests were an option code A82 - Head Restraints, and this car has them. All gauges and gauge lighting works properly. The fiber optics light monitoring systems all work. The windshield wiper system works, but the wiper washer is not hooked up....I would never squirt washer fluid on the car and you probably wouldn't either. This car has the UA6 alarm system option with the harness, horn, and rear activation switch still on the car but the system is not currently operational. The radio works good. Chassis/ Mechanical: The Engine is a numbers matching 427/400hp Tripower restoration engine. The block is a correct 3935439 casting with a cast date of E 13 8. The engine assembly stamp on the pad is T0527IM which decodes to Tonawanda Assembly plant, May 27th, and 4 Speed 3x2 Holley. The dates line up real nice. The engine serial derivative of 18S422233 is also stamped on the pad. The engine has a slightly beefier than stock cam and has a lope to it when idling, however, I do not know the lift and duration of the cam. This car runs very strong. The holley carbs are new, not refurbished, but new out of the box from Holley. They sit atop a correct 3937795 Aluminum Tripower intake manifold, and engage at about 4000RPM as they are supposed to. The water pump, regulator, and alternator are new. The entire A/C system is new....evaporator, lines, pressure cycling switch, expansion valve, compressor, dryer, and condensor are all new. It was recently serviced and retrofitted to R-134a coolant and is in working condition.
The 4 speed Muncie transmission is the original with the serial number stamped on it. It shifts good in all 4 gears and the reverse lock out works properly. It is mated to the engine with a correct 621 11 aluminum bellhousing with a new AC/Delco 11 clutch kit installed. The rearend is the original big block rear end with the big block end caps. I cannot make out the code numbers on it. It appears to be a 3.08:1 ratio which would be correct for this car with A/C. The original rear sway bar was removed, cleaned, and rebushed. The frame is solid and has been cleaned and painted at least as well as you can do it with a frame-on. The trailing arms are in very nice condition. There are new AC/Delco shocks all the way around. All 4 brakes are new stainless steel sleeved from Lonestar Caliper with new pads and lines throughout. The parking/emergency brake is operational. The fuel tank did NOT have a tank sticker...I looked....and replaced the tank with a nice new one. The radiator is a new DeWitt's reproduction aluminum radiator which is supposed to privide up to 35 per cent more cooling efficiency over stock. This engine runs surprising cool in the climate that I'm in. It may run a little hot if left idling for a long period of time after running it hard. The body build date on the trim tag is K20 which decodes to June 20th. 45,165 miles. Buyer says he paid $36k and put another $7k in it. June 30, 2009.
