Car history:
2) Clean Title. Recently inspected and registered. Mechanically sound, car is in great overall condition and can be driven and enjoyed immediately, not some project car. Same owner past 8 years. 20,500 miles (not original) indicated on odometer. This car never fails to draw attention and the color combination shows very well & garners it's share of turned heads & compliments. I even had a gentleman track me down inside a restaurant recently, just to talk with me about the car.
A car needs to be driven periodically, but I just don't have many opportunities to drive this one anymore, so it needs to go to a new owner that can use and enjoy it. This particular car marks the last year of chrome bumpers front and rear and the removable rear window. It will get you into the hobby with a modest investment that won't break the bank and will give you a car that is fun to drive and a good platform to modify for better performance if you desire. With values trending upward it's a good investment too.
The paint is very nice but not original, as the car appears to have been repainted at some point in time before I became the owner. The paint isn't perfect, there are small flaws when you look closely enough but the car is no where near ready for a repaint either. The interior is red. Windows have been tinted with ceramic tint. The interior and carpet is very near perfect.
The car DOES NOT have many of the electronic gizmos that lead to maintenance issues down the road like cruise control, power locks or power windows. It DOES have power steering, power brakes and air conditioning. It's a very basic sports car that is easy to maintain as a result.
The interior display is completely illuminated w/o a single burned out bulb and includes an upgraded quartz clock. The AM/FM radio is made by Antique Automobile Radio and looks and operates very similar to the original radio and is also MP3 player compatible. The plug-in jack for the MP3 player is mounted in the ash tray and not visible unless needed. The original radio (non-working) is also included in the sale.
Steering has been converted from the original technology to a rack and pinion unit. As a result of the change, rather than the vague on-center feel these cars had even when new, you get very responsive steering similar to modern Corvettes. The original steering components are also included in the sale.
The radiator is a Dewitts Direct Fit high performance aluminum radiator and the car is currently fitted with a flex fan to aid in air flow at idle. This eliminates the possibility of overheating issues if stuck in traffic during the summer with the A/C running. Speaking of the A/C, it's been completely gone through and converted to use less expensive and readily available 134a and performs well. The original seven-blade fan and fan clutch are included in the sale.
The front control arms and ball joints and the rear trailing arms have been rebuilt and all shocks replaced too. Tires are very near brand new. The current Rochester carburetor is from a 1972 Chevy pickup and performs well. However I am also including a recently & professionally overhauled '72 Corvette numbers correct Rochester carburetor in the sale.
The headlight doors and wiper door operate very fast and flawlessly as a result of new vacuum lines, control valves and actuators. The vacuum system is remarkably tight.
Repair manual, factory assembly manual (digital), car cover, a very nice fender cover that covers the entire front end during servicing, a pretty big stack of receipts and a three-ring binder of information on the car. I haven't organized the receipts just kept sticking them in the binder as I did the work.
What it could use:
The car leaks a little transmission fluid... haven't had a chance to address. The drivers side seat has just had a seam on the bottom cushion begin to open up. BiN $35,750 (Ended) on May 16, 2018.
1) 1972 NUMBERS MATCHING ORIGINAL STEEL CITIES GRAY ON RED AUTOMATIC, A/C, POWER STEERING, AND POWER BRAKE AND A BODY THAT WE BELIEVE TO BE NO-HIT. THIS RARE AND ATTRACTIVE COLOR COMBINATION WILL BE A TREASURE FOR YEARS TO COME.
EXTERIOR: The body is straight and most if not all of the paint was original when we bought it. Needless to say we repainted her and she sure did come out pretty. We repainted her the original steel cities gray and the interior and exterior trim colors are correct per code. She looks gorgeous. The frame is solid and straight. The former long term owner assured us that the car had not seen salty roads. The headlights are functional but the wipers will need to be looked at. The weatherstrip is either nice or new. The chrome on the bumpers is new too. The automobile retains its original rally wheels with trim rings and center caps that look great; the tires have plenty of meat on them. She is a sharp car that gets a lot of attention.
INTERIOR: The interior is very nice. The original door panels are in nice shape and both the seat covers and the carpet are new. Still bright, the interior sets the steel cities gray paint off very nicely. There are no rips, tears, holes, or cracks in the interior. This beautiful cockpit does not need much. The original stereo is in place and all of the gauges still look next to new, even the clock still works! The rear compartment doors are still in pretty good shape as well, not like new, but still intact and functional. The windows also move up and down great and the car still possesses its original Astro-Ventilation door glass.
MECHANICS: The car still possesses its correct original, NUMBERS MATCHING 350 cubic inch motor with the factory three speed automatic transmission. As you can see in the pictures the motor compartment looks very original with even its original air cleaner still in place. The bushings look fine and don't appear to be coming apart and the exhaust looks to have been replaced still sporting the correct square tips (one of which was straightened after the pictures.) All of the brakes have been redone with Stainless Steel Sleeved Calipers. The front and rear suspensions look good, their bushings are fine but not fresh. The car runs out and drives nicely. 106,000 miles. January 12, 2008.
