Car history:
Beautiful 1970 Corvette Coupe in great driver condition. This Corvette looks nice, runs great, and is an excellent driver that feels great out on the road. We have put over 40 miles on it during our ownership and during that time it was complete reliable and a pleasure to drive. We have the car priced to sell and are offering an excellent opportunity to own a very desirable Corvette at an unbeatable value. 70 Corvette was only made for 6 months and is the most rare of the chrome bumper years. 1970 was also the last year in Chevrolet before the emission requirements started that limited horsepower.
While this Corvette is not completely numbers matching it does have a 3970010 engine block, which is the correct casting number for a 1970 Corvette. The transmission is correct, original, and number matching with the last six digits of the VIN stamped on the main case and pictured below. The body build date on this Corvette is F24, which decodes to June 24, 1970.
We hand pick each car after careful inspection. Our Corvettes come from owners who expect their car to go to someone that will give the vehicle the same care and attention as they did.
1970 was the last year for high compression, truly full output, and all out performance engines in Corvettes. The model years to follow were more at the mercy of insurance companies, fuel prices, and emission concerns. The 1970 Corvette saw the shortest production time and lowest production numbers for any year of chrome bumper Corvettes. Total production in 1970 was only 17,316, which was the lowest since 1962. A strike at GM caused the 1969 model year to run for an extra 4 months so production on the 1970 models did not start until January of 1970. The body shape in 1970 was improved with fender flares to reduce the damage from wheel thrown debris. Many enthusiasts prefer the more pronounced fender flare and wheel opening introduced this year. 1970 also introduced the iconic egg-crate grills on the side of the car, which were only used on Corvettes for 3 years and have become a symbol of the chrome bumper Corvettes. The interior saw subtle improvements including a redesigned seat for better headroom and better access to the storage area. As in investment, the 1970 model year be particularly great due to the rarity and the fact that this was the last year Corvettes and muscle cars as a whole were purpose built for speed and performance without the limitations from environmental and emission concerns.
Exterior: The red exterior is in good driver condition. As one can see in the photos, the finish has fine gloss and nice shine. Both doors open and shut nicely. The wheels and center caps are in good condition with a great finish. The tires have about 90 tread left. There some small imperfections around the car that are visible in the photos and some that are too tiny to show up in pictures, but nothing else that is really noticeable from about five or ten feet away. There is an spot near the driver's door handle and specific photos of the area below. The underside of the car is clean the frame is totally solid around the key hole area in front of the rear tire. We have included many photos of the underside to show how good it looks.
Please note that almost all of the glass on this Stingray, including the windshield and even the pop out rear window, is date coded and original as each piece predates the car's body build date of June 24, 1970 (F24). Original glass is a good indication that this car has had no major accident history and never sustained significant damage.
Windshield - IT - The I denotes June and the T denotes 1970 meaning the windshield was made in June of 1970. This is correct as it predates the body build date.
Passenger - LT - The L denotes March and the T denotes 1970 meaning the passenger window was made in March of 1970. This is correct as it predates the body build date.
Rear - LT - The L denotes March and the T denotes 1970 meaning the rear window was made in March of 1970. This is correct as it predates the body build date.
Interior: The Black interior of the Corvette is in great condition. The seats are in nice shape and look just in person as they do in the photos with no rips, split seams, or excessive wear. The carpet is also in great condition with no stains, tears, or holes. The dash is in fantastic condition with no cracks, fading, or sun damage. The door panels are in terrific shape with no spits or cracks in the usual spot where the driver's elbow sits. The door pulls are solid and intact. The door locks do not work. There is a crack in the parking brake console. The radio works and most importantly the dash was not cut or modified for the installation. The jack and jack handle are still present and stored correctly in the storage compartment behind the passenger seat. The car also still has a spare tire. This Corvette has never been smoked in; there are no burns marks and no aroma of cigarettes.
The interior looks as good in person as it does in the photos.
Mechanical: This Corvette seems to be in good mechanical condition. The car is a awesome driver that feels nice the road and at highway speeds. As stated above we have put over 40 miles on the car with no issue at all. It starts right away every time, idles well, and runs great. In the video below one can observe the car accelerating on the highway up to about 70mph, shifting through all the gears, braking to stoplight, and going through some curves. Please note that it drives smooth and the car performs quite well overall. There is no blue smoke when starting or driving the car. The brakes are responsive and do not pull to one side or the other. The transmission shifts well. The gauge shows that the engine make good oil presure. Also, the engine compartment is beautifully clean and detailed as one can see in the photos.
The horn works as do all the indicators, wipers, exterior lights, and dash lights. The entire vacuum system for the headlights and wiper door works from both their respective switches on the dash and the override switches. Their complete operation from both switches can be observed in the video. All of the gauges work with the obvious exception of the clock. Some of the fiber optics work. The power windows work, but the right one is slow towards the top. The blower for the heater works on all speeds. Not enough can be said as to how much of a pleasure it is to drive this car, especially with the T-Tops out on a beautiful day.
A note on the fiber optic light monitoring system. We consistently receive many questions about the purpose of this system; exactly what it is and what it does. The sole and main idea behind the fiber optic light monitoring system is to simply confirm that all of the exterior lights, headlights, indicators, tail lights, etc., are working and to make the driver aware of a a burned out bulb. Each lamp on the outside of the car has an actual fiber optic cable the runs to an indicator on the center console. There are nine small indicators on the console and each has its own finer optic cable. When the bulb goes on the light travels through the fiber optic cable and illuminates the corresponding indicator on the console. If someone does not remember to plug the cable end into the lamp housing, does any work to the center console, or if there is a break in a connection or anywhere along the cable, that indicator no longer works. As one can image, over time this is very common.
Overall Condition: Overall, this 1970 Corvette is in excellent driver condition. In my opinion and based on our experience the Chrome Bumper cars from 1968-1972 are the most collectible and hottest in the entire Corvette market right now and 1970 is particularly desirable due to its rarity. The previous owner said he believed the mileage to be original, but the title in branded nonactual. This Corvette always gets a ton of attention driving down the road. The prices of C3 Corvettes have increased drastically over the past years and they are secure and wise investments for a collector. One could easily enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort. BiN $19,900. June 3, 2016.
