Car history: |
Number matching 427 4spd 1968 Corvette Roadster with factory hard top included. This car came out of the Saint Louis plant on October 28th 1967 in British green with a black vinyl interior. The power came from its 390HP 427 matched with an M21 and 370 posi rear end. It was also fitted with the optional vinyl covered hard top for comfortable year round driving. In 1995 the body was removed, the rust free frame was disassembled and then painted. The trailing arms were rebuilt (I was told) and re-installed as well as the rear end and half shafts. New front and rear sway bars were installed and the body (fire wall back)was bolted back on with a new body mount kit. Power steering and power windows were added. Unfortunately while the body was off the owner who had hopes of making a show car drove his truck onto the nose of the Corvette, destroying the original front clip, but not the original Big Block hood which was off the car at the time. An aftermarket front clip of good quality was order but never installed as his enthusiasm for the project waned. The car was complete, running and driving before it was to go through its restoration. The only parts that are missing that I can see are the wiperdoor grill and the intake manifold. The upper and lower dashes look to be in excellent condition, there are no cracks it the steering wheel and all the gauges are there. The seats have and older recover on them the soft top needs to be replaced and there is no carpet in the car. The door panels are originals with the date on the inside and need to be recovered or replaced. The drivers door has a completed repair and the drivers rear quarter panel has a small repair that has been started. The firewall back looks to be in very nice shape with no major repairs. There has been a small amount of sanding around the heater core box. Both footwells have had repairs where the firewall meets the floor. The car will be sold with either the vintage American Racing mags or a set of 15X7 ralley wheels with center caps only. The bumpers look good, and there is NO rust any where that I can see on the car, it is California rust free. It does have the original inner fenders and correct head light assemblies. You can choose the chambered exhaust or the chrome side exhaust. There is a rochester carb, tack drive distributor (no number), alternator and water pump with the parts but I don't believe any of these are original 1968 components. I do have the crank (steel) and the caps, rods, valves and springs. Build date C-28 Int. Std Paint 983 The hard top glass is dated correct for the car. Block # 3916321 I-23-7 Standard bore no bad cyls.
