| Car history: |
The car has been parked for 12 years. When I bought the car there was no brakes, and the engine would run but not very good. The odometer is showing 63,000 mile and I believe it is the original miles. Unfortunately the car is not all original with the side pipes and the engine not being matching numbers. All in all, the entire car is in fair to good shape. Body: Original paint was Paint code 912 (Sunflower Yellow). Trim code 400 (Black Vinyl). Obviously you can see the car is not the original color. On top of it not being the original color, the red paint job is not very good. The body is in good shape with the exception of the passenger front fender. It appears that the car might have blown a tire at one time, the inner fender well has broken loose from the actual body and there is a crack in the actual fender itself (See pictures). It will need to have some fiberglass work done in that area. It's missing front drivers side turn signal housing and bezel. It is missing the rear bumpers as well. There have been some modifications done to the lower seal plate and fender on passenger side where the side pipes were added. Who ever built the side pipes did not build them right on that side causing them to trim the body pieces to make them fit (See Pictures). Driver’s side was done correctly and has had no modification. The headlights work but I have not had time to repair the vacuum for the vacuum motors. We also installed a new windshield. Interior: The interior is all original. The seats have a couple of tears and the carpet is aged and faded. All in all, the interior is in good shape. The dash is not warp and the instrument cluster is in good shape. Has after market radio. Drive train: Unfortunately it is not the matching numbers engine, but it is the correct casting number for this year car (3970010) which is a 350 4 bolt main. I am not sure of the year. This is a factory A/C car and everything is there but I have not had time to charge the system or see if it works. The only after market things done to the engine that I know of besides the exhaust, are: Valve covers, Performer aluminum intake and Edelbrock carburetor. It has a complete brand new fuel system: fuel pump, tank, sending unit and fuel cap. It has a Muncie 4 speed transmission (I forgot to get the numbers off the case to determine the ratio). We replaced the flywheel and clutch and with the transmission out we also resealed it and installed a new tail housing bushing. We replaced the slip yoke and all 6 u-joints. The rearend gear ratio is 3:36. The gears look like brand new. Installed fresh fluid. Suspension: This is the area that we spent most of our time on. We replaced all the ball joints, control arm bushings, tie rods and sleeves on the front end. The only thing we did not repair was the power assist. We also replaced the rear shocks and strut rods. We replaced all 4 brake calipers with new pads and turned all 4 rotors. Like I mentioned in the first paragraph, this is where I believe the 63,000 miles on the odometer are true. Anybody that knows Corvettes knows when they assembly these cars in the factory, they assemble each hub assembly as a unit before installing it on the car. This meaning the rotors are riveted to the hub with 5 rivets. The rotors were still riveted to the hub when I went to take them off. These are the original rotors on the car and all 4 still had the bevel on the edge. The emergency brake shoes are the original shoes and they look brand new. This one particular fact is why I believe the car has no more than 63,000 miles on it. 63,902 miles from the odometer. July 21, 2009. |
