| Car history: |
1971 Corvette Convertible, 4 speed car. This is a very nice, well maintained example of a 4 speed convertible. The past owner had the car for 10 years and spent over $15,000 on the car. the miles are unknown as the odometer does not work.
Exterior:
Paint. The car was originally Bridgehampton Blue and was repainted red at some point. Thr paint is nice and looks great from 5 feet, but close inspection finds a few stress cracks, some slight bubbling and a few chips. While the entire car is painted red, the original blue is visible in certain parts of the door jams due to age. When the car was repainted the typical rivet repair was done above the headlight doors.
The rest of the car has light scratches and imperfections typical of a long term storage car. The car appears to have all original body panels and has never been hit. In fact the car gaps extremely well. The doors could be adjusted a little as they were removed at some point. There are several small cracks below the top edge of the rear bumpers.
Glass: All glass appears to be original and is in very good condition
Weatherstriping. All weather striping is in good condition, the door seals are nice, the A pillars exhibit some cracking.
Lights and lenses: All lights and lenses are in good condition and proper working order. The headlights go up and down. The rear tail lights have the domed aftermarket look, groovy.
Chrome: Overall the chrome is very nice. The front bumper is original and very nice, the front grills are good, the passenger side has some cracking. Thr rear bumpers have been rechromed. New sill plates. Very nice stainless. The emblems are tired..
Convertible Top: Brand new Al Knoch top over a very nice rust free frame.
Interior:
The interior is very nice. The following items are new from Al Knoch:
Seat Covers and foam
Carpet
Dash Pad
The door panels, dash, and console are original and very nice. New console plate. Arm rests have had pads installed. Radio is present, out of a 73, but it does not work. Gauges all work with the exception of the odometer, clock, and temp gauge. I don't think that any of the gauges are terribly accurate.
Drive train:
The drive train is 100% complete and numbers matching and most all components appear to be original. The original air cleaner has been replaced and the ignition shielding is missing.
Frame and Suspension:
The frame is very solid throughout as the front half has a slight coating of oil from the engine. The end of the drivers side frame rail has a small hole starting about the size of a thumbnail and thats it. The crossmembers are great. Over the axle is very solid. New trailing arms. New gas tank and fuel lines.
Both the front and rear suspension have been completely rebuilt. In the front, new A-arms, shocks, springs, idler arm, steering box rebuilt. New tie rods.
The rear suspension has been completely gone through also. New fiberglass leaf spring, new links, rear differential rebuilt. All new U joints throughout. New brake lines to rear calipers.
It appears that the rear driveshaft U joint let go at speed as there is a fiberglass repair evident in the tunnel. The birdcage looks new, no rust at all.
The exhaust is a new 2 1/2 inch stainless steel system with OE style mufflers and a great sound.

Wheels and Tires
Wheels: New rallys with very nice trim rings and hats
Tires: Very nice BF Goodrich Radial TA's, slightly oversized for an aggressive look.
Overall this is an excellent example of a rare, desirable 4 speed Corvette Convertible. If you are looking for an nice car that you can drive and enjoy, this is your car. The car runs, drives, and stops perfectly. That being said, the car is fresh out of storage and needs a complete maintenance routine and a little TLC to make it a daily driver. The car would be a great local car show cruiser. To be a show stopper the car would need to be resprayed and a light detail under the hood. That will be for the new owner to decide.
