Car history:
This convertible is a beautiful head turner. It is in very good cosmetic condition.
The car is metallic maroon with a black leather interior. The automatic TH400
transmission shifts as it should. The car has power windows, power steering and
power brakes. The interior is in great shape with new black carpet. I have just
put in a new battery. The brake pads, rotors, and lines are newer. The dual
exhaust and mufflers are newer with receipts for all recent work. I have just
replaced the windshield wiper motor. The engine is not original, so it is not
numbers matching. However, my low reserve reflects that. The original 350 was
produced in the first year of the catalytic converter, and the HP was the lowest in
Corvette history: 165. Factory stock performance was 0-60 in 9.6 seconds, the
slowest I could find in Corvette history.
http://www.albeedigital.com/supercoupe/articles/0-60_Quarter_Mile_Times/C_0-60times.html.
I bought the car with a small block Chevy 307. The outside of the engine looks
identical to the 350 as it is the same block. The same brackets are used for the
peripherals like air conditioning, alternator, etc. Only the numbers on the block
reveal that it is a 1968 307. An internet search shows that a 1968 Chevy Nova
with a 307 had 200HP although I have not put this engine on a dyno.
The car drives reliably and smoothly. I have taken it to work occasionally with a
70 mile commute without issues. The suspension is in very good condition; the
car drives straight and does not pull.
I originally planned to install a crate 383 motor, but then I found an 01 C3 with
race parts already on it. So I left the convertible as a cruiser.
You can keep the 307 in the car, and it will work fine without anyone being able to
tell the difference by looking under the hood. The engine does need new gaskets
as it leaks oil slowly. However, it does NOT burn oil; there is NO smoke coming
out of the exhaust.
This is a great looking car that gets lots of attention. Because the original 165 HP
motor is not still with the car, it is an opportunity for someone to get into a
Corvette Stingray convertible at a lower price than they otherwise would. This car
can change your attitude after a bad day.
