Car history:
Originally Ontario Orange 1971 Corvette 454 365 hp 4-speed all numbers matching, original engine and transmission. This car is very original and rust free. Sold new in Colorado and had been here ever since, it was painted pearl red in the 70's along with the aluminum wheels and custom seat covers, just like MANY Corvettes were back in the day when they were all drivers! Luckely, the body was never modified and the drivetrain was left alone. The front nose of the body has been damaged and fixed, there is some patch work done by the radiator support and inner fenders by the grill but, the damage did not get into the frame and it looks like a minor fix. The doors are very straight and I can see the original bonding strips on the rear quarters. It would not be difficult to have the body prepped and ready for paint. The frame and suspension are very nice and in many spots are still painted with the original chassis black. The passenger rear body mount still has shim chalk marks on the frame!! It is absoutely 100% rust free. The brake calipers and shocks have been replaced but all of the bushings etc. in the suspension are the originals. This car drives very nice, the suspension is very solid and smooth. As a driver, I dont think any of the suspension needs rebuilding.
The engine is the real deal, numbers matching and runs great. It sounds good and does not leak or smoke at all. A compression test was done and all cylinders were between 140 and 145 psi, the oil pressure stays right around 50psi, and the coolant temperature stays right at 180. It was just tuned up and serviced. I don't know if the engine has been rebuilt but, I would leave it alone, it runs great and is fast! I have since replaced the air cleaner with a correct one. The transmission is also the original and was just rebuilt. It shifts perfect and feels very smooth. This car is really fun to drive. Here are all of the numbers off of the car for proof of what it is:
VIN: 194371S115226 Engine: stamp pad TO414CPH 11S115226 castings on back of block, date L 29 70 casting number, 3963512. Transmission casting number, 392566 and the stamped number is C11S115226. The rear axle stamp number is AX W.
The trim tag: Chevrolet 121 Trim 400 Paint 987.
The tack does not work due the the cable being broken but, it does have the original tach drive distributor in it. The speedo works, all of the five guages in the center of the dash work including the clock. The console indicator lights do not work but, the heater, radio etc all work. The headlights operate perfect and the wipers work but, the door is slow opening. The rear window is removeable and the T-tops are in great shape. The door glass does not rattle and they roll up and down very well. The power steering and power brakes work great and make it very nice for driving. This is a very well preserved big block 4-speed Corvette needing only paint and some interior work. Mechanically this cer needs nothing! Done, this car will be a great Corvette. I also have a 450 hp 454 block. The casting number is 3963512, date L 29 70 and the stamp pad number is TO403CRR the broach marks are perfect and there is no vin number. 11,691 miles. March 11, 2008.
