Car history:
1) This is a 1970 Corvette Stingray Coupe, LS5 454 c.i.. / 390 h.p. 4-speed manual transmission with air conditioning and power steering as factory options. It has about 81,850 original miles. The car is an original, survivor series Corvette. It was in climate controlled storage in Louisville, KY from 2008 - December 2016 when I returned to the Army. It was is started / moved occasionally to keep the lubricants distributed. In December '16 we brought the car to Florida, where we keep it in our garage. History: I have owned this Corvette for the past 27 years. I purchased the car in Nashville, TN in 1990 from Van Hughes, owner of Nashville Truck Company. I was told I was the third owner. The original owner was a doctor in Alabama who wanted a red Corvette, but couldn't find one (presumably because of the low production year in 1970 due to the strike). He purchased the car new (which was originally Cortez silver, and had it painted red. When I bought the car it needed a paint job, and soon after purchase in 1990 I had it painted by the Mercedes dealership in Nashville. At the time, I was 27 years old and a red Corvette appealed to me more than a silver one, so I had them paint it red again. They bead-blasted the car and used Dupont Glasurit paint. Stripping the old paint revealed that the car had never been wrecked. This is still the case. I recently replaced the fuel tank, rear shocks and rear leaf spring bushings. I still have the original tank, with sticker, but it's difficult to read. Please note, except for the paint, carburetor, battery and some of the suspension (shocks and bushings), this is an original car. The windshield, T-top gaskets, and some of the suspension bushings are 45 years old. This is not a frame off restoration. The frame shows normal surface rust in places, but it is solid and has no rust issues that would compromise the frames integrity. In the interest of full disclosure and no surprises, here's what I know to be wrong with the car: 1. The windshield (still original) cracked in 1992 when I sprayed cold water on it while washing the car. 2. There's a small chip in the fiberglass on the front edge of the driver's side door where the door slung open when I was going around a corner. The problem turned out to be the door latch, which was replaced. 3. There's a chip in the fiberglass on the bottom edge of the rear drivers side quarter panel where the muffler sits. 4. There's a small stress crack on the passenger side rear windshield rail. It had this crack when I bought it. The Mercedes dealership repaired it during painting, but it cracked again a few years later. I was told this was fairly common with the 1970 Corvettes. 5. The clock doesn't work. 6. The radio is original, but the speaker wiring harness was cut by the previous owner to install an after-market radio. I re-installed the original radio, but the speakers are not connected. 7. The chrome on the bumpers is a little pitted from age. They have never been re-chromed. 8. The Rochester Quadra-jet carburetor is not the original. 9. The windshield wiper door has a vacuum issue that I haven't pinned down. It stays open most of the time, but closes when you let off the gas while driving. Apart from these minor issues, the car is original and unmolested. It has had tunes ups and oil changes. The stainless braided spark plug wires have been replaced a few times. The car did not smoke prior to placing it in storage. 81,840 miles. $25,100 (RnM) on August 6, 2017.
