Highlights: Car is a nice driver, with a non-matching (NOM) 327/350 motor, Turbo 400 automatic transmission, hardtop (only), power steering, power brakes and tinted glass. The car runs and drives nicely. Car has new paint, carpet, seat covers, tires, battery and horn relay. Starter and alternator have both been rebuilt.
FRAME & BODY: The frame, birdcage, pillar posts and radiator support are all solid. There is surface rust on the frame and under carriage, but no soft spots, rust holes or frame repairs. There are two (2) large nuts that have been welded to the bottom on both frame rails (one on each side). The nuts are located about where the doors end - possibly side exhaust mounting points? Both door frames are rust-free.
Overall, the body is in good shape, with decent gaps. Car has been repaired at some point in time on the RH (passenger side) door jamb area, by the right rear quarter panel. That area was cleaned up prior to repainting, but you can still notice the repair work, when the RH door is open. LH (driver's side) floor pan area has also been repaired, and is noticeable from under the car. RH (passenger side) hood receiver area has also been repaired, but looks OK, and latches fine. Car has a later (1973-76) Corvette long hood, as the wiper door assembly has been completely removed. Headlight openings have been filled in, with the headlights moved under the front bumper behind the LH and RH front grilles. Looking under the front end of the car, it appears that original headlight assemblies could be cut in with minimum difficulty. A box of headlight assembly parts (headlamp covers, frames, hardware, etc.), is included, and goes with the car. Hardtop is an aftermarket top. Car was recently repainted red (car was originally Polar White). Car was red when I acquired the car, so the car did not need stripped down to bare fiberglass before painting, except in some areas (top of rear deck, hardtop and gas door). Paint is not concurs, but looks very good for a driver. All outside emblems have been removed. Windshield glass is tinted/ shaded. Side door glass is also tinted, but both have a few nicks/scratches. Rear compartment area is good, but there is a hole in the bottom fiberglass section within the battery compartment.
EXTERIOR: Front bumper is nice. Front bumperettes are driver quality, as are both rear bumpers. All three (3) front grilles and both front turn signal assemblies are fine; lower front grille chrome is there, but pitted. Hardtop is aftermarket, and there is no convertible top frame. Rear exhaust bezels are included, but not installed. Lower front valence is cracked on the RH (passenger) side. Lower rocker covers (aluminum), are both in very good condition. Rear license plate bezel is pitted. All four (4) wheels are 15 Corvette style rallies, but I can't tell if they are the AG coded 68 only wheels, due to heavy paint. Spare tire tub and lid are included, but off the car.
ENGINE COMPARTMENT: Engine compartment is relatively clean. No wiper door assembly whatsoever, but both upper fender windshield molding pieces are there. Windshield wiper motor has just been gone through. Wiper washer bottle is there, but wiper washers don't operate. Some ignition shielding parts go with the car (see photo with headlight parts). Car recently had a tune up, oil change, and new filters. Starter and alternator have both been rebuilt; horn relay is new. Engine does have a very minor oil leak - front part of the engine front main seal probably.
DRIVETRAIN: Engine starts, runs, drives and shifts fine. The original engine is no longer with the car; the non-matching 327/350 motor in the car now, was in the car when I bought it. Exhaust looks rusty, but seems OK. No smog parts.
INTERIOR: Interior has new carpet and seat covers. Upper and lower dash pads, console, shifter plate and door panels are all weathered, and driver quality. Seat backs are OK, but have their share of chips and cracks. Chrome hockey sticks (4), on the seats, have corrosion in spots. Horn button and quarter trim pieces are well worn. Quarter trim pieces have, pilot job stamped on the back sides. Inside windshield trim, sunvisors and rear view mirror assembly are driver quality. Steering wheel is the correct 67/68 plastic wood grain wheel, with two (2) small cracks. Steering column is in good condition. The plastic E-brake cover is there, but cracked on top. Seat belts in the car when I bought it (black/non-Corvette) were rusty and locked up, so I replaced them with Green Deluxe seat belts, out of a Chevelle. Stock AM-FM radio is there, but doesn't work, as there are no speakers behind the kick panels. The rear compartment doors don't all latch easily. Speedometer and Tachometer work fine, but odometer and clock don't work. Tachometer shows a 5,300 RPM redline (correct for a base car).
OVERALL ASSESSMENT: This car is far from original, but still looks good and runs well. Hard to beat the looks of a red/red chrome bumper C3 convertible! No major issues that I am aware of. I've owned the car for a year and a half. I have a clear Ohio title in my name. The car is currently registered and insured. I have no factory GM paperwork with the car. BiN $14,700. September 23, 2015. Sold for $13,500 on March 23, 2016.
