Car history: |
1968 Corvette 427 435 hp roadster. I found this car in a semi trailer in central Ohio. Although the owner told me it was an L88 I was still excited to see what it really was. This is a very special car. Was originally a 435 hp 427 tri power roadster with the f41 special performance suspension (only made 1758 F41 cars). Unfortunately the engine itself is gone and it has a 454 in its place. The vin number is the 596th 1968 made for this model year and was built the second week of September of 1967. I was not able to verify if this car was or was not an L89 aluminum head car. There would need to be some more research done to verify if it was an L89. Here are the defining points that the car was a 435hp car; 6500 rpm tachometer (only used on the L71, L89 and L88), see pic. 70lbs oil pressure gauge. Single 3/8 fuel line with no union form the tank to the fuel pump (defines a tripower car). No holes in the passenger inner fender well for the coolant reservoir (This would be only on a L36, L68, L71, or L89 car), see pic. Has the mounting holes for the transistor ignition in the front of the divers side inner fender well behind the headlamp (L71, L89, L88) see pic. 15/16 front sway bar (F41 special performance suspension). 9/16 rear sway bar (F41 special performance suspension). Still has the original f41 front shocks, 7 leaf rear leafspring (F41 special performance suspension), FB code rear end (411 ratio heavy duty positraction rear end 427 only). The original colors on the car was 983 (British Green) STD interior (Black) Has option code U15 (speed warning indicator). The body is in very good condition no repairs never been hit. All original black glass. The doors are very nice no rust (see pic). The frame and birdcage is very solid no rust not even inside the frame (just surface on the outside). Original door glass, metal headlight covers, rear valance with the reverse lamps and wiper door assembly. The engine is a 1973 454 not hooked up so it does not run. The transmission is a munci 4 speed casting number 3925660 (correct for 1968). This should be an M21. Very solid and rare car. What a great opportunity to own this piece of Corvette history. 50,258 miles from the odometer. March 14, 2016. |
