Car history:
1980 Chevrolet Corvette
Duntov Edition N. 5
Chassis # 1Z878A5425217

Offered here is a rare 2 owner Duntov turbo Corvette with only 15,811 miles.

Chevrolet stopped making Convertibles in 1975 and in 1979 American Custom
Industries (ACI) of Sylvania, Ohio already a major supplier of custom parts for
Corvettes designed and built custom Corvette convertibles.

Arkus Duntov the father of the Corvette gave the project his blessing and allowed
the use of his name and it became the Duntov Turbo Corvette.

The project started with a new Corvette (this one cost $13,665) and ACI removed
the roof and used original Corvette parts to turn it into a convertible. They also
added their own custom body panels to allow for wider wheels. All cars were white
and red striping accented the upper body crease and rear panel.

The interior was done in red velour with wood veneer trim. Special digital
instrumentation was also installed. Single, large, square, quartz-halogen
headlights were built into a special hood, replacing the normal pop-up quad lights.

The doors and rear fenders flared out to cover 15 inch aluminum wheels with
Goodyear Wingfoot tires.

In addition to the normal side and tail lights, large red lenses finished the ends of
the rear fender extensions where they joined the body. A spoiler was added to
the rear deck and Duntov Turbo logos were applied to the front fenders.

The engine was a L-48 with a turbocharger. The Goodyear Wingfoot tires were
designed specifically for these cars and Aeroquip provided stainless steel braided
lines & hoses.

PPG helped with special resins for the body molds and Javelina Corp provided
digital Gauges.

When all these modifications were made it became a $40,000 Corvette and there
were plans/hope to produce a run of 200 vehicles but only around 30 were actually built.

This Beautiful Corvette was purchased by its current owner in 1990 and had been
maintained in a like new condition. It was displayed in the National Corvette
Museum for its grand opening in 1995 and remained there, for one year, until
sometime in 1996.

Minor flaws include non operating power antenna and gas gauge.

Car comes complete with original owners manual and pamphlets and a copy of
the original bill of sale.
