Car history:
1968 was a very special year for Corvettes. The all new “Shark” body style debut with its distinct “coke bottle” shape and sold well with close to 28K being sold that year. Most of the engines were carried over from 1967 including a 300 and 350 hp versions of the 327 as well as several versions of Chevrolets venerable 427 motor. The top dawg was the 427 L88 motor and, unfortuantely, those cars are out of reach for all but a select few, selling for over 300K even in this recessionary economy. If you can’t afford an L88 car, the next best things is an L89 car. If you ordered your 1968 Corvette with the L71 427/435hp motor, already legendary in its own right, you had the ability to add the L89 aluminum head option to your car. This 1968 Corvette is 1 of only 624 L89 equipped cars ordered out of the nearly 28K Corvettes made in 1968 and comes documented by the original tank sticker. It was also ordered with 4 spd transmission, 4:11 rear, tinted glass. AM/FM radio and rear window defogger. It handsomely sports the original colors of Silverstone Silver with a graphite interior. Rally Rims and reproduction bias ply redline tires round out the exterior of the car. This Corvette was treated to a frame off restoration 5000 miles ago and is in excellent condition. I have full photo documentation of the restoration. It was featured in a centerfold in Corvette Fever Magazine. I have traced the history of this car back to about 1983. It has never been flight judged and with a little work would be an easy top flight car. Exterior: The paint is in excellent shape and is base coat clear coat. The front bumper has a small flake in the chrome, but other than that the chrome and trim is very nice. Interior: Other than the carpet being worn on the divider board behind the seats, the interior is in excellent condition. The cardboard on the floor in photos has been replaced with proper reproduction floor mats. Powertrain: The motor and rear end are the originals. The Transmission had been replaced at some time in the past with a 4speed unti from a one from a 1969 Corvette. purchaser in the fall of 2008. The NCRS Master Judge who performed the inspection was very impressed with the car and said it would be a good candidate for flight judging. I have an inspection report prepared by an NCRS Master Judge for a prospective purchaser in the fall of 2008. He verified every number on the car and the numbers, including casting and assembly dates, all match except for the transmission as stated above. Colors from the trim plate. Built date is L06. 60,277 miles. July 6, 2009.
