Car history: |
1970 motion equipped corvette. This is a fresh, highly detailed frame on restoration of a rust free low mile corvette. This particular car has been in dry storage for the last 10 years that I personally know of so the mileage on the odometer is believed to be accurate. The car is a true 4 speed air conditioned car. The second owner of the car wanted a Motion car but the pricetag of a Phase III GT from Baldwin Chevrolet just wasnt in the budget and was also the proprietor of a custom body shop that specialized in corvettes. So the conversion process was started. The Motion front end, Motion emblems and GT emblems were ordered from Motion performance in late 1970 or early 1971. At that time the front end was converted and repainted the original cortez silver color with black stripes and rear flares were done as well. The car later was sold and repainted. The second owner of the car reacquired the car in about 2001 and put it away to restore back to the way it was. I ended up with the car in july of 2008. In the last two years an extensive frame on restoration has taken place. The frame had no rust all the floors are solid with no soft spots. The body was stripped and was in excellent condition. After the body was prepped it was repainted in cortez silver with the correct motion style stripes. The clearcoat has been sanded and polished to a mirror finish. The interior has been refurbished with correct leather seats and correct carpet. All interior trim panels are original and in excellent shape. The frame Is in excellent shape and rust free. The complete brake system is all new. correct 4 piston calipers and new rotors and master cylinder. All u joints have been replaced (diveline and halfshafts). Basically every nut and bolt on this car has been off detailed and/or replaced. The motor is a 512 coded late 70 454 block. LS7 crank and rods forged pistons and solid roller camshaft and has been balanced. Correct style torker intake, valve covers and flyeye air cleaner are there. The motor is very healthy and has plenty of power and then some. The muncie tranny has been rebuilt and shifts and performs flawlessly. The shifter is and linkage is an all new hurst unit. Cooling system upgraded to a newer style Be Cool radiator for efficiency. The ignition is MSD with the tach drive distributor for reliability. The air conditioning is with the car but not installed at this time. I am still trying to locate the correct water pump pulley and one bracket for the ac pump to have it installed. everything else a.c. related has already been installed on car. The car stars runs stops and drives as good as any restored 40 year old car i have ever driven. I have put only about 150 miles on it since the restoration mainly just to check for any glitches that needed to be adressed. This car is a very high quality example of an undocumented Motion equipped corvette. I never pursued getting the car documented since i know the car was built from parts out of the motion performance catalog. Just recently I came across a car that has been documented by Joel Rosen as a catalog car. Basically that is what this car is so Im fairly sure that it could be documented now. This is a real serious car and not the car for someone who DOESNT like attention. This corvette shows extremely well and is a blast to cruise in. This car is what all motion performace Phase III GT corvettes were. FLASHY AND FAST. Now all the serious stuff. This is not just another thrown together clone. The time, effort and money that went into this restoration is unbelieveable. So I really hope that if you are interested in this car you do your homework before bidding. The value of Motion built or equipped cars Has been steadily increasing and I absolutely will not give this car away. 74,696 miles from the odometer. Color codes from the owner. Built date is E25. June 16, 2010. |
