Details:
You are not only buying a 1968 Corvette roadster, you are buying a piece of Corvette
history. While born in St. Louis in 1968, this 'Vette has spent its entire life in North
Carolina. I purchased this car on Sept. 11, 1981, when it was 13 years old. While I
am the fifth owner, it has been in my possession for 27 years. I also have title
history documented to the original dealer, Harris Conners Chevrolet in Chapel Hill,
NC. In 1983, when 15, it was re-painted with DuPont Rally Red lacquer to duplicate
the original color applied in St. Louis in February 1968. The car was wet (hand)
sanded down to the factory primer and all fiberglass components and panels are
original. The convertible top, carpet, seat belts and console have been replaced
and the original door panel covering are under the replacement skins. All other
interior components including gauges are circa February 1968. The original lenses
and fiber optic cables function today. This car has not had a body-off restoration.
This optional 327cid/350hp engine has never been rebuilt, in fact it has never been
removed from the car. Researching the vehicle from previous owners indicates
new timing gear, chain and valve guide seals were replaced in 1976 by the third
owner. This was the last year for the 327 engine with the optional 350hp to be
equipped with so much factory chrome, oil cap, air breather, valve cover, full
ignition shielding. Installed in 1983, the front bumper was the last one available
from a Chevrolet parts counter found NOS in Baltimore, MD, for the price of $107.
Chassis components are original with the exception of shocks. Rear transmission
mount was replaced in 1986 along with new clutch and pressure plate. The correct
dated flywheel was resurfaced at this time. Brake system was totally rebuilt with
stainless steel calipers and silicone fluid. The original Goodyear Speedway F70/15
still resides in the spare holder today. The one-year-only, correct 7" Rally rims
equipped with correct center caps and NOS trim rings garnish the current day
replacement Goodyear tires. While the side glasses are the original factory installed,
the windshield was replaced in 1982 due to a rock encounter. Although this car is
being sold as a two top car with the correct matching hardtop, it was not delivered
with an optional hardtop when new. The hardtop was finished in the correct Rally
Red lacquer in 1983. Since this vehicle has been in my possession, it has been
driven only to car shows and for short pleasure trips. It has resided in its private
garage under a car cover since 1983. Numerous award winner including NCRS Top
Fight, Carlisle Top Rank and Bowling Green Best Roadster winner.
