Car history: |
1) This car was purchased in La Habra California at Don Steves Chevrolet on 8/23/68 as a surprise gift for a Marine Corp son 2 weeks from his scheduled return from Viet Nam. Tragically he was killed in action before receiving his Corvette. It remained in the family for the next 42 years in its original condition and rarely driven now having 29,120 actual miles. It was sold by its 89 year old owner in 2010 and brought up to running and road worthy condition and was judged by NCRS with a score of 93.5 second flight, 4/26/14. All docs and judging sheets included. Can be seen in photos. the car has its original 327/300hp engine with automatic transmission, ice cold air, power windows, steering and brakes. Tinted glass and am/fm radio. Pictures will show many factory docs including pro-tect-o-plate owners manual, and the original registration and California plate sticker. Along with all the docs, history and the story, this car is original, except for tires and few other general maintenance parts but if you looking at the chassis photos you will see the very rare heat shields that protected the floor from heat. They are usually missing because they are brittle and fragile they are rarely seen in original condition and are hard to find. This just adds to the validity to the cars originality. It's getting harder to find un-restored treasures like this and this one is amazing. The paint is all original and shows all the signs of it. all the flaws in the paint and to the character of the car, fading, chips, scratches, all the flaws you would expect but they are only original once, restoring this car would only make it just another restored corvette. For a 1968, new body style corvette and all the problems Chevrolet had with this new first year car. This car drives amazing, smooth, quiet, tight, incredible for its age and everything works, including the fiber optics that GM thought was a great idea for monitoring the lights systems. I have never seen one that ever works but this one does. The air is ice cold, the wiper door and wipers works, all the vacuum controls under the dash work for the pop up headlights. This is truly a time capsule, wonderful driving car for what GM tried to create with this new car. I have added photos of vin, trim tag and numbers on block. I could not get a clear shot of full number on block because the factory smog pump is in the way, but you can see last three numbers match and i can verify that all the numbers on block are correct to vin. $25,200 (RnM) on March 30, 2017. |
