Car history: |
Build date C 04 (October 04, 1968). Delivering dealer Courtesy Chevrolet, 3030 Stevens Creek Blvd in San Jose, CA.(Zone 06/Dealer 150) I purchased the car as a driver in 1981 in San Jose, Ca. Major restoration 1998-2000 including two stage paint to original Riverside Gold with black ZL-1 stripe added. Leather interior and power brakes added.
As of 6/1/09 - Original purchaser is unknown. Vehicle was purchased used from a San Jose car lot in 1972 by William Tonis. Mr Tonis now resides in San Ramon CA. He sold the car in 1978 due to expanding family obligations. He sold the car to his brother-in-law who quickly flipped it for a profit. Ownership between 1978 and 1981 is unknown and the vehicle was not registered during those years. Doug Whitely, who now owns a used car lot in Chico, CA, purchased the car in early 1981 from a small used car lot on Monterey Highway in San Jose. He says the car was purchased at auction near the sales lot and then he purchased it. The car was in poor condition. The car had been repainted blue and LF fender had been replaced, due to a wheel separation, and painted a mismatched blue. The seats had been recovered with leather seat covers. The tri-power manifold & carbs had been replaced with an aftermarket single 4-barrel. He purchased the car with the intent to sell it. I purchased the car from Whitely through a news paper ad in 1981. In March of 2016 I met up with Bill and Cheryle Tonis, the second owners of the car. They were happy to see that the car they dated in still existed and had been restored. |
