05/15/2014 I purchased my Corvette on January 18, 1975 from Folsom Chevrolet in Folsom, California. It was used, stock, white paint, black interior, and had 3,500 miles on it. I was 34 at the time and now I'm 75 and I have owned it continuously for the past 40 years. It's my baby and it's always been garaged. However, it does have a lot of miles on her. The first 12 years and 125k miles I drove it mainly to and from work in the Sacramento area, performing regular minor repairs and maintenance. I always wanted to customized the car. I disliked the white paint job, hated the rubberized front and rear sections which never held the paint well, and it needed major engine work. So, I went a little crazy. I had a new 350hp engine put in with lots of chrome, added 1982-style front-end and rear-end (with spoiler) fiber glass units from Mid America, custom side-view mirrors, 1982 high-back velour sets, Eagle Alloy polished 10 inch aluminum wheels, special suspension to drop it down a little, new sounds, and a custom black paint job. Over the next 5 years, I drove it off-and-on and less-and-less, eventually putting on another 61k of fun miles. During this time I continued to maintain her as required... but it's old like me. We moved to the San Diego area (Encinitas) in 1992 and for the past 23 years, it has remained in my garage virtually untouched except for short trips along the beach once or twice a year. My friends and relatives can't believe I've held on to it this long... I tell them I want to be buried in it. They know I'm kidding. The car is beautiful and it deserves to be out on the road and admired. I hope the pictures do it justice. It probably needs a little TLC like A/C freon, new tires, etc. before any long trips. But it's duly licensed and registered with the State of California with 2015 tags. |
