Car history: |
Do you think in 1951 Harley Earl knew he was going to make history when he created the race inspired Corvette. Borrowing the name from a Navy fleet of ships that were small, fast and powerful, history was about to be written. When the Corvette was debuted in 1953, it took America by surprise. Did you ever stop and wonder if the men who built this car realized how special it was, or do you think they just showed up to work and turn wrenches. My guess is, they all took pride in what they were building and knew with each turn of the wrench, each drop of sweat, and every cut and bruise they knew whole heartedly that they were building history. And imagine the father that told his son that he just built the worlds most beautiful car. And that son, later telling his son that his grandfather built that car when the two were spending a day together at a local car show. This car just didnt symbolize a mans design it symbolized what this country was built on and what we could really accomplish if we put our minds and hearts into something. Its a dream come true. We write this to you because we know our minds sometimes get clouded of what these cars were truly about. As a country, we cant forget that, and cars like this 68 Vette will always be a reminder as to how far weve come and how proud we have always been. And its hard to imagine that you could approve upon each generation of Corvettes but GM always did. By the time this C3 rolled out, it encompassed everything from the C1 and 2 and embraced where we were going. In 1968 Corvette hit the mark with consistent power and an aerodynamic body that always impressed on lookers. One of many things that is great about Corvettes, is no matter what year you have, once you purchase one, you bought yourself into a lifetime membership that gives you carte blanche to bragging rights and youre entitled to every bit of it! This fully restored 1968 Corvette Convertible holds no excuse. This is a complete numbers matching restoration that is as nice on top as it is on the bottom. Comes complete with Copy of Original Title, Protect-a-plate, Original Warranty Papers, Owners Manual and Original GM Corvette brochure. Exterior: Well, as they say, when the top goes down, the price goes up!! This completely restored 68 Vette Convertible is absolutely stunning. An no expense was spared. If you do it, you might as well do it right and thats how the previous owner felt too. Painted its original Cordovan Maroon it shows in immaculate condition. Shines excellent and would stand taller than tall at any show or event. The wheels appear in new/restored condition. The chrome and stainless is brilliant and presents in a perfect manner. The glass is also in perfect condition and the top is new. There are no excuses and you will not be disappointed. Underneath of the car is as nice as the top but in a different way. There was no short of detail. The underneath has been all heat shielded like it was from the factory, All nuts and bolts have been either sandblasted and reinstalled or new ones have been installed. Everything has been painted and detailed. You must see to appreciate. The body only has 63k original miles. Interior: The interior for the most part is original. With the replacement of the carpet, the rest appears to be original. Show little to hardly any wear, this car was used for only pleasure. The radio has been upgraded to a somewhat modern radio producing much better sound then its original. Everything works too. And as you can see from the pictures presents in a show quality manor. All the top manual mechanics work excellent with no binding. The fiberglass attached boot works perfectly too. Windows operate as they should and all gauges are crisp and clear. Drivetrain: The engine is the HT L79 350 Horse block with special cam. This is an original engine and only has been freshened up with new timing chain and gears and seals and gaskets. It is unmolested and has its original factory performance. It is a numbers matching block with the vin # stamped into the block. The 4 speed tranny is original as well. All suspension, brakes, belts, hoses and exhaust have all been replaced and detailed before installed. The rear suspension has all new leafs on the rear along with springs and shocks. Absolutely nothing was over looked. All links, ball joints and bushings have been replaced too. Tires are BF Goodrich redlines. As mentioned earlier the underneath has all factory heat shields and sound deadeners installed new. The car runs/shifts and performs like new. It is quiet and comfortable. I cant express in words the ride this Corvette gives, no rattles, no kinks, knocks, taps. Motor suffix code is V0226HT. Color codes from the trim plate. Built date is H05. 63,765 miles from the odometer. March 9, 2012. |
