Car history: |
1968 Corvette Stingray, 427 Tri-Power, 4 Speed.
The Motor: This car came in a package deal of cars that I bought. I don't know much about Corvettes but I did do some basic homework. The motor has the matching VIN on it, but if you look you can see the last few characters have been stamped post production. I am told this area is often times milled off and that's why only the last few characters are restamped. The rest of the VIN and info appears factory. The motor is dated correct for the car. The engine runs good but does have one lifter or rocker that clacks.
The Transmission: The original VIN is on the passengers side of the transmission and appears to be factory stampings.
Rear Axle: Is intact but I don't know much about it other than it's a positraction. The brakes have brand new calipers and master cylinder.
Interior: Worn and tattered and needs redone. The factory radio is missing and door panels are warped. All gauges are there and intact and appear original.
Paint: Looks good in pictures and at 10 feet but is blistering all over badly. The car will need to be stripped and repainted. The original color of the car is British Green.
The wheels and centers appear original but I am not up on date codes for them.
There are electrical issues with the power windows, they work sometimes and not others. The fan blower doesn't work. The headlights open and close nicely.
Comments: This is a car that with some work you could make a daily driver out of. I am reasonably sure that anyone looking at a 427 Tripower Corvette will restore her, but I'm just saying if you don't have the budget for a resto right now, you could do a few things and drive it. It does run and drive now but could use some things. I dropped the fuel tank to locate the "Tank Sticker" but it was not there. The tank had yellow writing on it like from a wrecking yard so I think even if the sticker had been there, it would have been for a different car...NO TANK SHEET!
This car belonged to the same owner since the early 80's. He moved to Oregon a decade ago and has not been able to find the title. I have a signed lost title application with his signature. I also bought a Hemi GTX from the same man and it took him weeks to find that title. I'm sure the car was last registered in California.
