Car history:
2) I bought this 1972 Corvette three years ago, on ebay, with the intention of having a nice driver. It sat in dry storage in Georgia for 22 years before I got it. As you can see it came with the Georgia lic plate with the 1993 sticker on it. The plate is not included in the auction by the way.
The pictures on the ebay ad showed dull but intact paint. What showed up was paint that had some small bubbles here and there. Within a couple weeks the paint was peeling off in sheets and now here it is. I was still deteremined to put this classic back on the road.
I replaced the fuel tank, fuel pump, cleaned the fuel lines and replaced the steel and rubber lines as necessary, flushed all fluids, rebuilt the Holley carb, replaced the brake master cylinder, calipers and pads. It has new ignition wires, distributor cap, rotor, coil and wires. I just put the tires on it last fall.
The body has no cracks that I can find and the frame and bird cage appear rot free. There is of course plenty of surface rust, dirt and cob webs.
The interior is in reasonably good shape, but like the rest of the car it is tired. The foam padding is going bad and the seat skins are getting split seams.
It starts and runs but it seems the ignition breaks up when it gets hot.
I am sad to say it is time for this classic to move on to someone that can give it the attention it deserves. Inspections are encouraged! I can even get it on a lift for you.
I have received many requests for frame pictures so here you go. I also have a lot of questions about the Bird cage which looks very solid where I can see it. I tried to get a picture of inside passenger side kick panel, I hope it helps. The trim tag is pictured with the title and the original color is Ontario orange. It is a non-AC car. To the best of my knowledge the engine and trans are original to the car. I am going to do some more research to verify this. Also the VIN is miss-recorded on the title (letter S is a 5 on the title). I will supply an affidavit with the title to remedy this.
I have just returned from the Department Of Motor Vehicles. I have sent in the title with the typo and they will correct it and send me a new title. The bad news it this will take from two to four weeks. I wish I would have found out sooner. Thank You, to the bidder that noticed this discrepancy. It would have been a much bigger deal later. The winning bidder will receive the title the day after I do. 78,9?5 miles from the odometer (possibly broken?). Sold for $9,200 on April 27, 2018.
1) I came across this car last week performing a home inspection on the property for a client. The Corvette was in the basement and had been since 1993?? The pictures you will review are from the basement and back at my house. I did not wash it so the dust you see is 22 years of sitting in the basement. The interior of the car is in really good shape and appears it would only need carpet and the driver seat recovered. Dash pad has no cracks and door panels look good. This is a non air car and non power brakes. The car has power steering. I do believe the
78,994 miles to be correct for the car. The title I have from 1986 the car had 47,586 and its listed on the title. Realize it was parked 7 Years later. The brakes are down from sitting so I have not driven but I added gas to the carburetor and the car cranked and ran. It is a matching number car. The original carb is not there and the original steering wheel. The car has an L88 hood on it as well. I do not see any rust on the frame or bird cage of the car. Probably sitting in a climate control basement for 22 years helped that a lot. The paint code is 987 which would be Ontario Orange. The trim code is 400 which is Black Vinyl. This a small block 350 with 4-speed manual trans. If any of you remember the band back in the early 70's named Banks and Shane this car belonged to the drummer for that band. He is the one that parked it in 1993. So if you looking to do a 72 Vette this would be a nice one to put back original condition. The original rally wheels are not here. The reserve is low for the car so good luck and thanks for looking. April 5, 2015.
