1968 CUSTOM CHEVROLET CORVETTE, also known as SPORTWAGON, PANELWAGON, NOMAD VETTEWAGON. This car was a 1968 corvette coupe originally from factory. (i have the original t-tops, they are painted to match car). Car has fresh (one year old) paint job. recently added-on more front end metalflake (3 months old). Car is painted a kandy apple red color with gold base coat. color is deep red. there was 4-different red metal flakes used. mini-micro-standard .015 & bass boat .025. the name on side is gold leaf effect. car has the 1pc. nomad rear section (no side windows) with large fender flares, rear window does not open, possibly could be set up to open. front end is 1pc. tilt style mako (headlights by grill). newly installed exterior parts are functional 68-69 Z28 style hood louvers, hurst equip hood enblems, side mirrors, door handles, astro sunroof, weatherstriping, on rear custom made "bowtie" taillight system (when brakes are used, it spells out CORVETTE). the interior is handmade (as there is no special panels for these cars). color of interior is black & grey. simulated diamond tuck fabric, highback racing seats, new dash pad (signed by GEORGE BARRIS) the king of kustomizers, new (amp-water-oil) gauges, new old style sun tach, custom steering wheel, bolt in roll bar (can easily be removed), i have a new in the box never mounted am/fm/cassette player to be installed, there is custom 2-storage compartments behind seat with built in speakers (and bowtie light assembly) accessable by lifting lid behind seats. powertrain is original factory posi-trac & gearing, 1968 327 cu. in with 2.02 heads (documentation on casting # for heads & block). as heads were recently reworked (less than 300 miles on new parts). edelbrock crossram (duel quad) intake with holley duel line carbs. nice mild street cam, gear drive timing gear (loud style), hooker full side headers (chrome shows usage from age), aluminum radiator (with front fan system), chrome alternator - waterpump - ect. original 4-speed "rock crusher" transmission (nice shifting), new 1-year old GASSER style aluminum mags 15" x 8" front & 15" x 10" rear. tires are good. This car has been in (3) different issues of CORVETTE TORQUE magazine. this is a magazine issued to NCRS members. yes i am also a ncrs member. car was in the world of wheels show in chicago and received a plaque "best in class". & dash pad was signed by GEORGE BARRIS. with photos of MR. BARRIS signing car and sitting in car, i also have video disc of cars in the world of wheels show (including corvette) and also have cd rom of start to finish on the paint job. NOW PLEASE NOTE, IN MY OPINION (AS A PERSON WANTS TO KEEP ADDING NEW THINGS) I AM PERSONALLY CALLING THIS CAR 90% - 95% DONE. there are a few simple things that i wanted to do to car, (1) change fuel tank (to a flat fuel cell) reason is it has regular fuel tank designed to fill behind licence plate & when filling it only holds half tank aprox. 10 gal. due to shape. (2) small tear on the side of drivers seat (from my comb) cheap repair. (3) finish chroming front fender wells (i have the mirrored chrome metal to do, just needs formed to desired shape) just a nice display option. (4) if needed? as stated i have the original t-tops and they are painted to match car, t-tops do need new headliners & weatherstrip if desired to use. they can be used as is although would leak a little water. i prefer to use the astro top myself. Car needs good wax/detail in future, we was told to wait till spring due to fresh recently painted front end metalflake. Overall a nice old school car. daily driver in good weather. AFTER CHECKING OUT PHOTOS IN LISTING, I NOTICED THAT THE METALFLAKE IS NOT SHOWING UP CLEARLY. THE HOOD SECTION & BOTH SIDES WITH CORVETTE EXPRESS NAME & REAR SECTION WITH BOWTIE TAILLIGHT. THESE AREAS ARE DETAILED IN STANDARD & BASS BOAT LARGE FLAKES. & THE PHOTO WITH THE SIDE SHOT "CORVETTE EXPRESS" THE ROOF LOOKS BAD. IT IS IN REAL NICE CONDITION, JUST A BAD ANGLE SETTING WITH CAMERA. OVERALL THE BODY WAS COMPLETLY GONE OVER AND GEL COATED DURING THE NEW PAINT JOB. Trim plate is painted over, was hard to read. i think it was TRIM 415, PAINT 978? When replacing the interior parts, pillar post ect. these parts were dyed black, were originally blue. car had orange crushed velvet interior in it when i purchased it. First thing done to car was to get rid of that interior. November 9, 2009. |
