| This handsome 1968 Chevrolet Corvette is exactly what driver's want in a first-year C3 Stingray. With a numbers-matching 327, four-speed gearbox, and fantastic colors inside & out, here's an ideal way to own a vintage 'Vette without spending a fortune. The arrival of the all-new Stingray in 1968 turned the automotive world on its ear, and even today it's one of the most iconic and recognizable designs around. The Corvette community is particularly keen on these early models with the full chrome bumpers and flat rear that integrates the spoiler. The paint has the kind of luster that will make you love taking it out in the sunshine, and the chrome is the ideal mirror complement. Even on the days you cannot be open to the world, this Stingray keeps its stylish side with the choice of a folding roof or removable hardtop both in a pristine matching white. One look inside will convince you that they didn't cut any corners when creating this fantastic red. The bucket seats, carpets, door panels, dashboard, and nearly every other inch of this interior has such a fresh and aggressive red, it looks like lava flowing from the doors. Breaking up this sea of crimson is a skinny woodgrained steering wheel that continues to link the Corvette to its European inspirations. Ahead of that is the classic dual pod gauge design for the large spedo and tach, and to the side is a full set of auxiliary readouts. 1968 Corvettes debuted the fiber-optic lamp monitoring system in the center console, which is always a cool feature for first-time Corvette owners, and there's a correct AM/FM radio in the dash. Even the clock is still ticking away! And of course, it's hard to resist a Corvette with a shift-it-yourself gearbox, especially when it's topped by a big chrome knob. So you can tell there was a lot invested in keeping this more aggressive interior looking compete and stock. The engine is the original, numbers-matching 327 cubic-inch V8. The block wears correct Chevy Orange paint, a stock intake, four-barrel carburetor, and a set of ram's horn exhaust manifolds feeding a rumbling dual exhaust system. There are some out there who need big blocks, but for true drivers of vintage sports cars, this is the one to have. It will idle all day in traffic and not foul its plugs; it's considerably easier on gas; and if you've ever driven one, you know the smooth power delivery comes from revving this one up. And you truly get this full control over the V8 thanks to the four-speed manual gearbox. Just as it was true in '68, the Stingray can still live up to its reputation as America's sports car with components like a fully independent suspension, power steering, four-wheel disc brakes, and BF Goodrich tires on those iconic Rally wheels. Here's a first-year C3 with arguably the best color combo for a convertible, a numbers-matching motor, and even the original owner's manual.
