Car history: |
Introduced a year later than scheduled in order to further refine it, the 1968 Corvette debuted with an extensive redesign based on the Mako Shark show car. The new Bill Mitchell-designed body, sported pronounced fenders, a 'flying buttress' roof design and a Kamm tail, markedly distancing it from the previous generation Sting Ray. Despite the pronounced outward differences, beneath the fiberglass skin, Corvette remained little changed, including availability of the big block engine in L71 Tri-Power form. This outstanding low-mileage example has been driven just over 23,000 miles. It sports the respected L71 427/435 HP engine backed by a Muncie M21 close-ratio 4 speed manual transmission and rare 4.11 Positraction differential. It is also equipped with power steering and power disc brakes and a recently installed new dual-exhaust system. Repainted once in Safari Yellow, it had body-color T-Top roofpanels and a well preserved black vinyl interior with AM/FM radio and a wood-rimmed steering wheel; even the radio, gauges and clock are in operating condition. Both front and rear bumpers have been rechromed to a fresh luster, and the three-piece Rally wheels are fitted with valuable and correct NOS Firestone F70-15 whitewall tires. No experience comes close to driving a classic big-block Corvette with its brute power of the mighty 427 though the tri-power carbs, a true tradition of the muscle car era. Color codes from the trim plate. Built date is L19. 23,325 miles from the odometer. Motor pad says T0711IR. June 4, 2015. |
