Car history:
I have owned the car for twelve years and it is really very nice. Soon to be 50 years old, drives nicely. Doesn't burn or leak oil. The car is non-numbers matching (has a 1966 motor), partial restoration completed mostly by professional corvette restorer. Needs power steering pump, but I drive it without the pump, and the interior needs to be completed.
I wish I could give answers to all these questions but I really don't know much. Here is what I can confirm. The engine is a 427 CI and the frame is straight. The vacuum system seems to operate properly, the headlights go up and down, and the wiper gate will go up (although I can't get it to go back down). The wipers don't work (but I have never drive the car in the rain). I can't confirm the seatbelts, tranny or rear end. Clock, oil pressure and temp gauges work (fuel and amps I'm not sure). The tachometer and the radio work, the speedometer needs a new cable.
Three times in the past few years I have had the car valued and it consistently was worth about $21,000 in the condition that it is in. I was also told that investing $6000.00 in the car would make the car worth almost $40,000.
Sorry for the poor information, but I am really not a car person. I'm a dope who has an old corvette.
What needs to be completed on the interior ? Any idea if / when the engine was rebuilt ? Any issues with the transmission, clutch, brakes, rear ?
Hi and thanks for the questions. I am sorry but I have no idea if the engine was rebuilt. I will tell you it runs very well and it doesn't burn any oil. I have had absolutely no issues what-so-ever with the engine, transmission, or rear end. I had the clutch replaced a few years back (it can't have more that a few thousand miles on it) so no issues there. The mechanic confirmed that the bell housing, flywheel, and flywheel cover and starter are correct for the car. The breaks are solid and do not leak any fluid. I believe I have all the pieces to finish the interior but the car needs someone with more mechanical skills than I possess to complete it. The fiber optics all work and the headlights go up and down. I can't figure out how to get the windshield wiper gate to go back down after it goes up. I think the car needs a fuel sending unit so the fuel gauge will work properly, the speedometer cable needs to be replaced and it needs a power steering pump. When I had money to put into the car, I did so at professional corvette mechanics (Like D&M corvettes in Downers Grove, IL and Tom Lane automotive in New Lenox, Illinois). I am only selling my car because my financial situation has changed dramatically and I have listed the car for less money than three mechanics have told me it is worth so that the buyer will be please with their purchase. I hope this helps. Sold for $17,800 on June 4, 2016.
