Car history: |
Up for Sale is a beautiful, 100% restored 70 Stingray coupe. It originally came with optional engine L46 350ci 350hp / 380 ft lbs torque and has the original Muncie 4-spd and Optional posi rear-end (373s). This car has been completely disassembled down to just the body and frame and all parts were cleaned, rebuilt, repainted or replaced as needed. Every bolt holding this car together has been replaced with grade 8 bolts whether necessary or not. I've been restoring cars for 30 years and I am VERY meticulous about everything I do to my restoration projects. I am the third owner of this car. The second owner never drove it at all during the entire time he owned it which was about 11 years or so. This car has 80,110 original miles on it, 1,110 since rebuild.
When I stripped this car down to the frame and body, the only parts that were not removed were the body mounts.
All bushings, bearings, brake pads, rubber seals were replaced along with all 6 U joints on the drive shafts. New urethane control arm bushings were installed as well as the rear-end support bushings. I wanted to give this Vette some flair so I polished the tranny and bellhousing and rear deck vents to a chrome-like finish. It has a brand new high performance Ram clutch disc, pressure plate and new throw- out bearing. The brake lines were all replaced except the one running from front to rear, and all brake calipers were rebuilt except for one which had to be replaced because of a broken bleeder screw with all brand new grade 8 bolts. The brake pads are new along with a brand new chrome brake booster and master cylinder. The radiator was replaced when the first owner sold it with a new big block radiator which I installed dual 11" fans that keep the cruising temp at 170 constantly. It also has a chrome power steering pump and a 1-wire chrome alternator. The starter is a high-torque 3 hp mini starter. It has a 7 quart oil pan, high performance water pump (polished), brand new set of aluminum pulleys and matching aluminum brackets, a brand new tach drive distributor w/ clear cap, and 10 mm spark plug wires. Those are Ceramic Coated headers, and every component related to the headlight vacuum system has been replaced along with all new headlight buckets, adjusters, springs, and halogen bulbs w/ new retaining rings and they work perfectly. I also installed a power rack and pinion system and I get almost 1 turn in both directions on the steering wheel and it has a little better turning radious than other after market racks. Both front grilles, bumper and front braces are also new.
I drove this car 1,000 miles to break it in and get it fine tuned before I painted it and as you can see, there is NO discoloration in the headers. I always drive and breakin my restorations and tune them, work out all the little things that arise, and make sure everything is in perfect working condition and replace or return any parts that do not meet my satisfaction before I even think about selling them. Also I do not list my cars for sale until they are in such a good enough condition that anyone can just hop in and drive without any special instructions on operating anything, make any adjustments after you drive it or in other words you don't have to be a mechanic to own or drive it. The rest can be seen in the pictures.
The under body was in such great shape I painted it with the same paint used on the exterior (base coat, clear coat oriental blue-green) which is a DuPont Spectromaster color, GM101K. The true color cannot be captured with a digital camera. Its more of a dark aqua marine rather than the light blue it appears to be in the pictures. If you are interested in the car I suggest going to your nearest DuPont paint distributor and looking up the color chip to see the true color. Take it outside in the sunlight if possible, youll see what I mean. It is really a head turning color.
The engine is a 350, 4 bolt main (correct block for this car 3970010). The engine is a 383 ci stroker with 11.5 to 1 CR, to you people who are not motor heads its basically a 350 with a 400 crankshaft giving it a 3.75 inch stroke rather than a 3.48 stroke and having big block torque and hp in a small block engine. It is bored .040 over and believe it or not, do a number of reasons we can talk about if youd like, it runs fine on pump gas, 91 octane. It has aluminum heads cnc'd ported 68.5cc chambers with 220 cfm runners , they were 64cc before the cnc was done. The bigger chambers flow better with the 2.08 intake and 1.60 exhaust valves installed, a roller cam with .595 lift and 304 duration, Link bar hydrolic lifters, forged H-beam rods, forged probe pop-up pistons (+8cc), scat steel crank, Milodon #18750 high volume/ high pressure oil pump, quiet gear drive timing and there is no whine, stainless steel full roller 1.6 ratio rocker arms, 7/16 studs with stud girdles, chrome moly 5/16 pushrods, Holley strip dominator manifold ported to felpro 1206 gasket which is required qith the heads and polished outside, Brand new 850cfm Quick Fuel carb w/ clear float level windows for easy adjustment, MSD 6AL ignition along with an MSD 8680 adjustable timing control module w/ the ignition timing control knob on the dash which is great while driving through drastic elevation changes and quick tuning. These newly designed probe forged pistons do not swell up as much as the older ones and have a tight running clearance so there is no need to warm the engine to drive like older forged pistons to eliminate the pistons from rattling. Fully balanced rotating assembly which I am told should be good up to 9000 rpm but I run a 7000 rpm chip/rev limiter just to be on the safe side. If you do the math with the specs I just listed and add the .024 deck hieght and .042 for head gasket thickness this engine should be pushing around 500hp easy.
Feel free to contact me for more photo's or info @ daviddarick@hotmail.com. I know this car up and down, just ask.
I haven't totaled up all the receipts I have yet because I have still been ordering parts (just minor little things to beautify the interior) but its close to $20,000.00 just in parts, no labor costs included. If you were to buy a 70 Vette in need of restoration and have it done or even do most of it yourself you would be looking at $50,000 to $60,000 in parts, labor and paint which makes this one a steal for the amount I am asking.
I also still have all the original working gauges but I like the white face ones because they are easier to read at night and look better to me.
I am still looking for a radio to fit this dash to go along with the Sony 1200 watt amp (xm-2002GTW) and a set of Sony 6"by9" speakers with a 12" inch Sony sub woofer in a carpeted box that come with the car as well.
This car is ready to Race, show or just drive.
I have had this car up to 130MPH it took a few seconds to go from 50 mph to 130 at less than half peddle and was still climbing I had to let off, never cracked the secondaries and I think I was around 4,900rpm on the tach so it will do 160+ for sure. The next time I do it I will make sure on the exact tach reading. This engine is really starting to gain lots of power, it seems like everytime I drive it it gains more and more I guess the rings are starting to fully seat.
I will be updating my pictures as soon as I get into the muffler shop and have the exhaust pipes changed to 2 1/2 pipes and the stock square tips installed.
Every where I go in this car I gather alot of attention and besides the paint looking like glass the main question I am always asked is what is the name of the color, they say it is a beautiful color and haven't seen it before.
I would be willing to consider delivering this car to most states with an unrefundable deposit made or paid in full before delivery.
