Car history: |
05/10/2014 A special Corvette that everybody dreams of, a real red on red, high optioned Survivor with 55,838 original miles.
Recently acquired from the previous owner of thirty years, this 1971 Corvette Coupe is loaded from the factory with the following options: A31 Power Windows, A85 Custom Shoulder Belts, C60 Air Conditioning, J50 Power Brakes, M40 Turbo Hydra- Matic Automatic Transmission, N37 Tilt-Telescopic Steering Column, N40 Power Steering, U69 AM-FM Radio, and Posi Rear end. It was finished in, and still wears its original shade of Code 973 Mille Miglia Red, one of 2,180 that year, over Red Vinyl interior. It also retains its original, born with 350 cubic inch, 270 hp small block motor with its original date stamp and suffix code of: VO208CJK.
Exterior paint is original but has 43 years worth of stories to tell. There are numerous scratches, some nearly two feet long, chips and blemishes as well as the typical frontend rivets working their way through the original fiberglass. Please note each and every picture as I took the time to document the age and condition of the paint. Bumpers are original, as is all of the factory tinted window glass. Windshield has scratches from the wipers and rock chips. The sidepipes were installed prior to the early 80s when the previous owner purchased the car. However, they appear to be 1969 GM Corvette era covers and the rear valance exit holes were properly filled. The luggage rack appears aftermarket and was again part of the history prior to the early 80s.
The interior is also original minus seat covers and carpet. The door panels are worn and need replacement. Door speakers were added years ago. The original dash pad is in excellent condition and what you would expect from a real 55K mile car. The vacuum controlled headlight doors and wiper doors work flawlessly, as well as the low beam headlights, the high beams are the original T3s but are out, turn signals, hazards, windshield wipers, power windows, speedometer, fuel gauge, temp gauge, oil pressure gauge, battery gauge, and aftermarket AM-FM radio. The items that are non-functional are the tachometer, clock, and air conditioning. The compressor is intact but the original condenser was removed by the previous owner and comes with the sale of the car.
The engine compartment is about as original as they come and minus any amateur detailing to spoil or hide what it should be. Again, I have posted numerous photos to highlight the originality. The car starts, runs, sounds (thanks to the side exhaust), and drives good. Recent service includes a transmission service, replacement of filter and gaskets, and numerous power steering hoses and fluid.
The undercarriage is again original with light scale and consistent with a 55K mile, garage kept Corvette. Again numerous photos attached.
The original jack, lug wrench, GM T-top bags, and factory AM-FM radio are also included.
Overall this is an honest low mile, high optioned 1971 Chrome Bumper Corvette finished in a desirable factory color combination. The term Survivor sure seems to get around, but I believe this one fits the bill. Drive it and enjoy it as is, or it is a worthy candidate to take to the next restoration level. |
