Car history: |
2) This is a 1968 Corvette Roadster whose body was built on the first day of production. Built date on the cowl tag started with B which is September of 1967. If you look at the picture of the cowl tag, you'll see B01. It is the 116th 1968 Corvette built. On top of that, the original owner was Gil Ayala of Ayala Brothers custom car fame. Amazingly, the original owners manual, original protecto plate with Ayalas shop info on it. Even its original window sticker remains with this car! I had the old paint job on the car buffed out and it looked ok for awhile, but has hazed up quite a bit and has areas where it's shinier than others, so currently looks much flatter shine wise, so expect to paint it if you don't appreciate patina. Overall the car needs restoring.. Don't know when the car was customized as you see it or if there was a progression to it. Some of it is early 70s for sure. The hood surround is an aftermarket piece, you can't really tell in the pictures but the front fender peaks are higher and sharper than normal. Side fenders appear to be GM items from a 1970 to 72 Corvette. Has a non matching 327 with camel hump heads, solid lift cam but motor needs rebuilding and 4 speed Muncie trans. Was told that when Gil Ayala sold the car to the people I got it from in the 80s that it had a Corvette fuel injection unit on it and to make it more affordable he pulled the fuelie unit off and stuck a 2 barrel carb and regular distributor in it. So engine might be worth repairing instead of replacing. Originally red with a black interior..no tops for the car. Has rare telescopic steering column always a Los Angeles car so no rust anywhere other than surface. Has power steering and power brakes can be put back to stock since it's such an early car or keep the custom mods that probably are in a magazine or 70s custom car show coverage wanted to keep it was hoping the motor would run good enough to drive as is but I need to focus on other cars I've had longer. This is a 2 owner car windshield frame and birdcage are about as mint condition as you can find. Also have two fiberglass covers for the headlights car is on non op status in CA have a clean CA title in previous owners name. Since I won't count myself since I've only had the car a short while. Whomever wins this auction will be this cars 3rd owner. Gil Ayala owned the car from late 1967 to 1987 or so and the folks I got it from had it since 1987 to just very recently. No bid at starting $999.99 on April 19, 2017. 1) 1968 Custom Corvette Roadster Convertible. With built up engine, with over 400 hp. Engine has very low original mileage. The car needs work. Its been non-operational for 6 years. Needs new top and carpeting. 40,000 miles. $14,000. September 1, 2012. |
