Car history:
3) No bid at starting $37,000 on June 22 and 29, 2017.
2) 1970 Donnybrook Green Corvette Convertible originally sold new at Yenko Chevrolet in nearby Canonsburg, Pennsylvania. Yenko, of course, is the Chevy dealership famous for building the 427 COPO Camaro SYC, as well as an assortment of 427-powered Chevelle Supercars and Novas. Less known and even rarer are the Yenko Corvettes of the late '60s and in this case 1970 model year. These cars didn't bear a unique SYC name, but the fact of the matter is that Canonsburg, Pennsylvania's Yenko Chevrolet was very proud to be the Greater Pittsburgh area's only authorized High Performance Corvette dealer back in the day. Throughout the 1960s, Don and Frank Yenko routinely ran ads in the Pittsburgh Press proudly announcing Buy Your Corvette at Yenko Corvette Center, and they did come with high-performance options as seen on this 350/350hp 11:1 compression engine and didn't need to be special-ordered through COPO (since that particular engine was an RPO on the Vette at the time).
After 1969, the 427 was no longer a factory option, the 454 was now Chevy's big block, but with insurance regulations, added cubic inches meant increased weight displacement, in turn decreased power. Thus, Yenko went to the small block, as seen on his famed SYC 1970 Yenko Nova Deuce which was similarly equipped with a 350/370hp LT1 engine, also 11:1 compression. This 1970 Yenko Corvette has its born with numbers matching drivetrain & notable options: High-Performance 350/350hp (11:1 compression, last year for high compression engines), M21 Muncie Close Ratio 4 speed transmission, 3.70 gear ratio posi-traction, 2 tops, rally wheels, power steering, telescopic wheel, am/fm radio 1 of only 48 with these options and even less in Donnybrooke Green (1 year color). This largely original example has had only 1 repaint to original Donnybrook Green (older paint was done 20+ years ago but has held up well, overall unrestored example and is certainly a NO HIT car).
Since Yenko Sportscars, Inc. never built a limited production Yenko Corvette/SC specialty car like their Corvairs, Camaros, Chevelles, and Novas, the paper trail on regular-if you could call it that-new car sales, which were handled directly through the parent company, Yenko Chevrolet, Corvettes included, and is practically non-existent, so this is where documentation comes into play: This car contains the ever so important warranty book and protecto-plate, confirming it's Yenko heritage. NCRS shipping data report said it was uncertain due to poor microfiche but believed it was originally shipped to Pennsylvania to Weaver Chevrolet in Oil City, a short distance outside of Cannonsburg, PA. home of Yenko Chevrolet. This was undoubtedly a dealer transfer to Yenko, which was quite common back then to neighboring dealers. Customers who walked into a dealership, wanted a specific engine/trans, color combination, etc. and was not at there dealer in the area, the dealer would call neighboring dealers and complete the transfer and in this case, the transfer went from Weaver to Yenko. The proximity of the Protect-o-Plate also adds up, confirming the original owner lived in the Pittsburgh area, a short distance to Yenko Chevrolet. It also wears its original slightly pitted metal Yenko dealer emblem (not repop commonly found on ebay) and Corvette by Yenko frame on the rear, both items extremely rare and original. This same car was once owned by Pro-Team Corvette in which I still have a copy of there original ads offering this very car for sale 20 years ago as seen in the pics below titled Yenko Corvette / Original Yenko 350/350hp. Registered with current CA. Black plates Yenko70... Low reserve for quick sale, as I'm looking to buy property. Ended at $22,322 (RnM). January 11, 2016.
1) For sale 12/2005. Yenko documented car w/ 69k mi numbers matching drivetrain. From 1970corvetteregistry.org, on July 12, 2010.
