| Car history: |
| You are looking at my dream car, and my baby. Things have changed over the last nine years, including 2 babies and I have come to the conclusion that I need to let this one go. It has been modified some, with performance added to the engine and the paint color changed from its original Targa Blue, but it is your chance to get a bargain NUMBERS MATCHING 1972 Corvette Stingray. The mileage shows 49,369 but the odometer does not work, and the engine has been rebuilt so I would say it is exempt. The speedometer does work though. My wife and I bought it already restored in July of 2000. Only things I have done through the years are new exhaust, fuel pump, alternator, carb., belts, and air cleaner. It has been kept in the garage ever since I bought it and I only took it out on nice days and pretty much just drove it around town cruising. It is a 38 year old car with an older restoration. I am not a mechanic, so I have taken a ton of pictures and I will give you all of the information that I can possibly think of both good and bad. T-tops are in good shape and both handles lock in tight on both sides. The interior is in super condition as you can see from the pictures. It has a tilt steering wheel that is also a telescoping wheel that you can bring out to you. It had new carpet put in throughout right before I got it, so it still looks like it is brand new. I also have some little square black mats that you can have that I used to keep the others nice. It has a Pioneer cassette stereo with the Corvette specific emblem on it. You can hear the radio, but the speakers are old and need to be replaced if you want good sound. I am not sure who he had do the seats, but they are excellent and look like they are factory original but with the condition they are in I would guess they had to be redone. It has a sun tachometer in it that works too. There is a real nice removable armrest pad also. The door panels look good and I think for the age, the interior is in great shape. The original seat belts are there, but I didn't use them and didn't have much luck with them when I tried to strap the kids in. I am sure the t-tops probably leak, but I have never had it out and left it set in the rain, so I am just guessing. The windshield wipers and the heater have never worked, but I have not tried to mess with them. It came with factory air, but was taken out when the engine was overhauled. I still do have the compressor, condensor, and all of the other stuff, so it goes with it too. The dash has no crack in it either. The paint looks super when you are out driving by, or even from 10 feet away. I have seen some blue in some crevices in the door jam, so I did some research and have found that it was originally Targa blue. The plate on the inside of the door says Chevrolet C21 Trim 400 979 Paint. The interior was originally and is still black. It is a cruiser and daily driver, and would need to be repainted in order to be a show car. It is an older restoration, probably about 13 or 14 years old, so the paint has done the typical fiberglass thing that happens on the corvettes. It has tiny cracks in the paint and shows any flaws and imperfections under the paint. All I did was wash it and shoot it with Harley Glaze quick wax for the pictures and you can see that she looks good. I have taken a few pictures of the worst spots. One is on hood, but it is in the upper middle where you could either repaint the hood. I have also seen them tape off the very middle and shoot it black for a sportier look. One of the pics is a small spot on the driver's door and there are a couple of little scrapes on the fender well in one of the pics where something has rubbed against it in my garage. As old as the paint is, there are lots of little nicks and tiny chips in it. The chrome bumpers are good, they just need to be polished some more to get them looking perfect. I have the original antenna, but it does not show in the pics. I took it off for storage and it didn't want to slide in when I was cleaning it up so I left it off. The are a couple of swirl scratches on the back window, looks like it was done during restoration. They could probably be polished out. The headlights do work, I just forgot to take a pic of them up. They always come right up, but sometime you have to play with them a little to get them back down. The back luggage rack has some light surface rust, but as you can see from the pic she still looks good and could be polished to look even better. The engine is a 350 small block. It has 125505392 V1C14CKW stamped in the block. It was already fixed up when I bought it, so I will tell you what I know and can remember about it. It has a little bit of a cam in it and has a little lope to it. It also has a gear drive in it, so it has that hot rod kind of blower high performance whine to it. It sounds good and turns some heads when you are out. All I did before the pics was to shine the air cleaner, so you can tell it is pretty clean. It has an edelbrock big bore 650 carb on it (according to my father in law-he put in on there). It has a chrome edelbrock air cleaner and aluminum edelbrock valve covers. It has a new alternator, fuel pump, and exhaust system that I had put on a few years ago. I put new plug wires on it, and it sounds good, but it could use a tune-up I am sure. The previous owner had it stripped down to the block during restoration, and I have a card from Hoosier Regrinding in Terre Haute that shows some specifics on what they did to the block. He told me all kinds of stuff he had done to it, but it has been nine years so I can't remember all of it. The brakes need to be bled because I let too much fluid leak out, so currently they are not working too good. It had all the brakes redone too before I bought it. The tires look to be more than half the tread left on them. It has a spare tire underneath, but I could never get the key to work so I have not had it down to check it out. It does have covers for the t-tops too. I also have the owners manual. 49,369 miles. June 11, 2009. |
