| Car history: |
By 1969 Chevrolet changed the Corvette name back to the one word Stingray as a spin off the ultra-successful Mako-Shark 11 concept car that had been on the show circuits in 1965. Designed by Larry Shinoda under the direction of GM design head Bill Mitchel was further modified and changed into the later version Mata Ray. As they usually are the year after a major model introduction, changes for the 1969 Corvette were minor, made mostly to remedy problems noted by owners and the motoring media. The major change was a stiffening of the frame to reduce body shake and smaller one like door handles, hidden wiper mechanism and back up lights. Engine alterations, on the other hand, were more obvious, seeing as how carmakers were in the second year of federally mandated and still had relatively straightforward emission controls. The famed Chevy small-block was stroked about a quarter-inch to 3.48 inches, which boosted displacement from 327 to 350 cubic inches on the same 4.00-inch bore. Corvette offered a 300 bhp engine the same ratings as their 1968 equivalents but with compression dropped a quarter point to help meet the new emissions regulations. This example has had previous cosmetic restoration and is presented in its 976 LeMans Blue with a smooth running numbers matching 350 / 300 HP engine and numbers matching automatic transmission. The car is equipped with rare and desirable factory A/C as well as power steering, power disc brakes all around plus power windows. The look of this Corvette is completed by matching blue interior and a white soft top with Corvette Rally rims wrapped in BF Goodrich TA radial tires for improved ride and handling. Nicely optioned Corvette that is ready to drive and enjoy. 84,000 miles from the odometer. $32,900. March 19, 2012. |
