01/02/2014 Early Car, This car, VIN 1Z37K2S500162 was born on August 17th, 1971 and was one of the first 1972 Stringrays built. In fact, it was built on only the 2nd day of the 1972 production year and shares a few production traits of the 1971 model year. Tuxedo Black, Sadly, by 1972 the classic Corvette color of Tuxedo Black had been discontinued for Corvette production, leaving many die-hard fans of the sinister color distraught. Not surprisingly, many 1972 Corvettes were repainted in the classic Tuxedo Black finish. Dealership lore includes many tales of new Stingrays rolling off of the transporter straight into the paint shop! The factory was inundated with requests for factory black paint jobs, and it is widely accepted that at least four of those cars were built, one for GM's president, Pete Estes. Certainly, the owner of this vette shared Mr, Estes preference and had this Stingray painstakingly refinished in the beloved Tuxedo Black finish. The repaint is excellent and I find no evidence of it ever being any other color than the current Tuxedo Black. |
