Car history:
1972 LS5 Corvette 1 of 3,913 454/270hp Big Block Vettes built. With only 2,763 Classic White Corvettes built, if you do the averages there may have only been around 400 White LS5 Vettes created, then figure Coupe with 4-speed and A/C, this could be one of less then 100 cars built. This is a rare car indeed. 1972 was the last year for the desirable front and rear chrome bumpers and removable rear window. The Corvette in this auction is a real LS5 454/270hp 4-Speed A/C car that is in good useable driver condition. Its not a restored car and not perfect but a good driver. With some work, it can be brought up to the next level, as well as higher value. This car has had the same owner since 1990, that’s a long time with the same owner!
Exterior: The owner states this Corvette has its original panels. The body is straight with no cracks in the fiberglass. The underside is unrestored and solid. The frame is not rotted and solid. The chrome and trim are in original condition. The T-tops are in good shape. It is missing the cowl trim and has stick on trim for the look. The paint was done approximately 10 years ago. The finish is smooth with no orange peel. There are a few chips and minor scratches you would expect from a car that was driven and used.

Interior: The interior is in good shape, not perfect but useable. The seats are decent. The door panels are in good original condition. The driver’s door pull is loose on top and it’s missing the door lock knob. The carpet is in good shape as well. The steering wheel is from a later model. She features Tilt & Telescopic steering column, Power Windows, and factory Air Conditioning. The A/C doesn’t work but it’s all there. It will also need a new heater core. The wipers do not work as the wiper door actuator is missing. The headlights open and close very well. There is an aftermarket AM/FM/Cassette Stereo that works fine replacing the original without cutting the stock location.

Mechanical: This 454 is the correct motor for this car according to the owner. I did verify the block casting number and engine suffix codes out correctly for a 1972 454 4-speed Corvette. The transmission I was also told is correct for the car. She has power steering and manual disc brakes. The engine runs good on the road and has smooth power. It seems to have a little miss at idle, perhaps a vacuum leak? There is also a minor coolant leak from one of the hoses. We are tracing that down before it sells. The transmission shifts easy and the clutch feels good. The suspension rides nice. The steering feels a little loose but not bad. She rides on vintage aluminum 8” wide Turbine Wheels that have been with the car since the late 70’s or early 80’s. Three out of the 4 center caps are missing. The rear mufflers and gas tank were replaced within the last couple years. It rode down the road well and when I gave it throttle, the car just kicked in and scooted well. It also handled well around corners and is a pretty decent driver.

Overall you are getting a good driver quality LS5 Corvette with a lot of desirable options like the LS5, 4-Speed Transmission, Factory Air Conditioning, Tilt and Telescopic Steering, and Power Windows. This is the perfect car to buy, use as is and fix the little things as you use it. It’s also the perfect candidate for a full on restoration as it has everything you want to make it worth restoring with the right options and clean body.
