Car history:
1970 Chevy Corvette Coupe LS5 T-Top w/ 4 Speed & Factory A/C: Red w/ Black Interior – Originally White w/ Blue Interior. Car has had a body-on, frame-on restoration in the past that included interior, paint, doghouse, performance street suspension and rebuilt engine. Restoration is a few years old and represents an excellent driver-quality vehicle. Previous owner was a Corvette mechanic and did most of the work. This was his personal vehicle. I recently replaced the original #’s matching engine with a Jasper Class III performance engine after experiencing a cam issue. Instead of a cam swap, I decided to pull the original engine and protect it by placing it in storage and building a replacement. The original #'s matching engine is included with the car. The replacement engine specs are: Jasper Class III Performance 454(.040 over) – 472 cubic inches; 9.75-1 CR, Edelbrock Performer Aluminum Heads w/ Scorpion 1.7 Roller Rockers, Edelbrock Torker II Intake, Mighty Demon 800 Annular Carb w/ Mechanical Secondaries, Comp “Mutha Thumpr” Hyd Roller Cam 558/542 lift, 253/249 Duration, MSD Pro Billet Ignition, MSD 6AL Ignition Box, Griffin Aluminum Rad w/ Electric Fans.
Also: New Centerforce Dual Friction clutch; Flywheel Resurfaced, New Hedman Long Tube Headers, New Full 2.5” exhaust w/ two chamber flowmaster mufflers, Synth Fluid in Trans & Diff, VR1 Racing Oil in Engine, Engine Dyno 505hp, Chassis Dyno 407hp, Approx 200 miles on engine.
Other Notes: Since the carb is a race design there is no choke, so when it first started it can be a little cold natured and requires feathering the throttle for a few minutes. Then she’ll settle into one of the best sounding idles I’ve heard in a street car. The handling is very crisp as is the throttle response. With over 500hp there is plenty of power, but with the 3.08’s out back you can still cruise with decent fuel economy (for a big block, I guess). This car would be a monster with 3.73’s or 3.42’s. I have the #’s matching engine bolted to an engine pallet in storage. I don’t have the original carb, but do have a time correct Q-jet and some other parts that go with the car. NADA low retail is $45k. Muscle cars have softened a bit in the past two years, but #’s matching 70 Corvettes are rare and will rebound strongly in the near future. The body lines and gaps are all very nice and even. The paint is not show quality, but very nice. There are some touch ups and a few chips. The interior is in excellent condition. The ride is very smooth and tight. There aren’t the shakes and rattles typical of older Vettes except for a nice bump from the cam at idle. $40,000. 90,037 miles from the odometer. Color codes from the owner. April 9, 2010.
