Exterior The black exterior is in presentable driver condition. As one can see in the photos the finish has decent gloss and smooth finish. There are no major imperfections that have been intentionally excluded from the photos. The paintjob does have some age and blemishes, which is evident in the photos. I have done my best to accurately and objectively photograph the car and show the flaws, but some are too small or cannot be picked up by the camera. One should really view the car in person to get the best and most accurate idea of what the car really looks like. For the most part however, the car looks in person as it does in the photos. The wheels are in great condition with a nice finish and no major curb rash. The tires are almost brand new with about 95% tread left. There are no rust issues with this car. The frame is solid with no rust in front of the rear tire around the "key hole" and there no rust visible on the "A" pillar around the windshield.
Interior The black interior is in very good condition. As stated above, most of the major interior components have been replaced so much of the interior is brand new. The seats look literally brand new with no rips, splits seams, or signs of excessive wear. They are not worn in the typical areas such as where the driver gets in and out. The carpet is in nice shape with no rips, tears, or holes. This includes the rear carpet, which is often neglected. The door panels look like they have been replaced and are in great shape; unlike many Corvettes of this age, they also fit well and tight to the door. The dash is brand new with no cracks, fading, or sun damage. The rear cargo cover operates properly and has no slits or tears. The steering wheel has not been replaced and does show its age. The original pedal pads are not excessively worn and, as one can see from the photos, show normal wear for a car with this mileage. This car has not been smoked in and there is aroma of cigarettes whatsoever.
Mechanical This Corvette seems to be in good mechanical condition. The car starts right away every time, idles well, runs well. The car drives nicely and it feels good on the road. There is no smoke when starting or driving the car. The brakes are responsive and do not pull to one side or the other. The transmission shifts well throughout the power band. Also, the engine compartment is nicely detailed as one can see in the photos. The previous owner told me that he just installed this newly rebuilt engine, unfortunately I do not have a receipt from the work completed. We have only driven the car about 5 miles on the road so I'm sure there are still some mechanical bugs and loosed ends to tie up, but the car is usable in its current state and drives surpassingly well. This Corvette has plenty of power, much more then what came from the factory, and it is very fast. It also sounds like the car has a mild cam. There is a bit of play in the steering. The horn works as do the headlights, fan for the heater and a/c, all gauges (even the clock works), and wipers. The vacuum for the headlights works as both lights pop up with the headlight switch. The driver's side power window works fine, but the passenger side will get stuck in about 3 inches from the top and needs helps to get up and down. The only items I am aware of on the car that do not work are the cruise control, interior lights, and horn, which are all very common problems on this era Corvette. There is also some belt noise audible at higher rpm. There may be other troubles with the car that I have possibly overlooked so I would suggest that the buyer inspect the car in person if possible. It is still a pleasure to drive this Corvette, especially with the t-tops out on a beautiful day.
Overall Condition Overall, this 1981 Corvette is in good driver condition. This car is a great value with A TON of potential and we have priced it to sell. The car turns heads and gets ton of attentions wherever it goes. The value of the C3 body style cars has gone up dramatically in the past few years. They are all solid investments for a collector. One could drive and enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than the purchase price with minimal effort.
