For longer races, such as Trans-am endurance events, the car would carry a larger fuel cell with pinned aluminum fill flap, special fuel overflow valve at the rear, door pins, hardtop with pins, etc. It had a number of replacement Guldstrand suspension pieces, as permitted by the rules.
Notes/Race History: Randy Stafford of Lake Lotawana, Missouri had been campaigning a 1965 Corvette at the national level for a number of years and had competed in the 1972 ARRC with it, but wanted a newer C3 model to remain competitive. Randy purchased this car at the end of the 1972 season from D+H Corvette Salvage after a paint truck made a wrong left-hand turn and tore the nose off the car. Randy built it into a race car and raced it at the national level from 1973 - 1975. It was one of the top B Production cars in the country during that period, and Randy competed in the CSPRRC with it during both 1974 and 1975. In 1975, he won the SCCA B Production Midwest Division title with it, the first such title for a Corvette since 1970 as Mack Yates in his Shelby Cobra had won it the previous 4 years in a row. Randy also raced Trans-Am with the car in 1973 (including Watkins Glen) and 1975, and it was one of the first 10 Corvettes to ever compete in Trans Am. At the end of the 1975 season, Randy sold the car to Harmon Linder and Chuck Cotterill of Norwalk, Ohio who then proceeded to win 7 out of 8 races and the 1976 N.E. Ohio Region B Production title. In the last race of the season, the motor blew and then the car sat until 1979 when it was then sold to Rick Pfrang of Little Chute, Wisconsin. Rick raced it in the Central Division and then sold it in 1986 to Bill Firari and Dick Kelly of Madison, Wisconsin, who raced it consistently until 1993. Jim Shanel then bought the car in 1993 with the intent to keep it racing, although this time in vintage with VSCDA under the number 96. Jim successfully vintage raced it for a number of years, including four consecutive appearances at the Merrill Lynch/Brian Redmond International Challenge. In 2005, Jim sold the car to Alan Trotter of Dallas, Texas, who continues to vintage race it with Corinthian Vintage Auto Racing (CVAR). In 2006, Alan re-united Chuck Cotterill with the car who had not seen it for almost 30 years and had him drive it on the track. February 27, 2009.
