| Car history: |
This is a used 1968 Black Corvette Convertible Coupe. It is not numbers matching. Also, while this car is a total blast, runs and drives great, and is structually sound it is by far from show condition. If you are looking for a show condition car, this is not it. If you are looking for a vintage Corvette that is affordable and a blast to drive, this car is it. It is a chick magnet.
I am selling it as I need to liquidate my assets for a divorce. I am a compelled seller so the price is low for this type of car in this type of shape.
The good: •Looks good, by far not perfect, but runs and drives great. This car works. •Has side pipes that sound awesome. •327 •4 speed Muncie transmission that works great. •All four tires are new. •All the guages work. •Starts fine. •The structure is sound and could be restored to show condition if desired; however, it is a beautiful blast as it is. •Custom Sounds Stereo Head Unit with a separate Amp with subwoofers and speakers behind the seat in a custom enclosure. •Women love this car.
The other: •The body is in good shape, but not show shape....same for the paint. It was repainted before I bought in Jan 2008 and the paint job is maybe a 7 out of 10; however, the finish looks good. •No headlights, but they can be fixed •No windshield wipers, but they can be fixed •No heater core or A/C •I drive this car on sunny days. •The fiberglass hood has a footlong straightline crack, not very noticeable at most angles, this seam can easily be fixed if you even want to. •The front windshield trim needs to be added back in. I have the trim, the windshield needs to be popped out, the trim put in, and the windshield back in. I have new hardware for that. •The door panels look decent but I needed to use extra screws to properly mount them due to wear. •The inside door lock hardware shows its age. •The outside door lock hardware is new. •This is a 43 year old car that has held its age well; however, the glass is not new.
I have posted as many pictures as possible to do the best I can to represent this car's operating condition, physical appearance, and structure.
Do not underestimate the absolute fun this car is and can be for someone that appreciates older vettes that are really good drives. This car is a beast and I get comments every single time I take it out.
Also, I have fabricated a console panel that holds the ignition key, turn signal, hazard, fuel pump and fan toggle switches. This is not OEM.
Additionally, many interior trim pieces are new; however, the buyer may want to replace the upper and lower dash pieces some day. They still look OK for the most part; however, they are far from perfect.
Yes, there is rust on the under carriage as this car has never had a frame off restore. I can provide a picture if you wish.
You will find surface rust (which can be sanded out), under the cockpit frame panels; however, there is no major rust issues on this car anywhere that I can tell. This car is very solid and if you have any concerns, please come out and take off any panel or trim piece you wish.
The car has new weatherstripping; however, I can not tell you if it leaks or not as it is never driven in those conditions and I am careful to wash it. This car is by no means in great condition from those perspectives or I would be selling it for considerably higher.
I believe the engine to be a 1965 327; however, I can't verify completely. I do know that I have had good work done to it and it starts and runs very well. That I can assure you.
I don't have spare parts for the lights. The vacuum system may need to be repaired for them to work again. I do have the windshield wipers, but not the motor or washer pump.
I will also be including a car cover and covers for each roof panel.
I do not believe the car ever had A/C. It would have at one point had a heater core, but that was gone before I bought it.
It has a rust coating, but is by no means rusted out anyway underneath or on the frame. It is a solid car.
I recommend you come see it to make sure you are comfortable with what you are looking at.
I do not know the HP, but it is a beast and runs like a beast.
I have never explored the headlights and wipers further as my driving needs didn't require it. I bought the car with headlights and wipers not working. The previous owner said that he thought the headlight vacuum system needs overhauled. I have a headlight switch, not installed, that I could provide. It is old and may/may not work.
As for the wipers, there is no wiper motor or washer pump motor. I bought it that way. I took the wiper blades off as they rattled. I still have them and will provide them with car.
The wiper door was removed before I bought this car and as you will notice in the pictures that a longer raised hood is on this car instead of the stock shorter hood that would accommodate a wiper door. Again, wipers and lights were not important to me.
If you are looking for a car to drive at night or in the rain, right from the purchase, this is NOT the car for you.
OEM turn signal wiring harness was removed before I bought it so the column switch doesn't work. Also, the OEM console panel was not with the car when I bought it so I made my own panel.
This is not a stock OEM car and is not close to show quality. It is a monster sunny day fun driver.
Heater core not in car when I bought it. Again, I didn't care as I wasn't driving it in the cold weather. However, this car does generate cockpit heat on its own.
