Car history:
2) I bought this beauty just over a month ago. That's right...I said a month. About a week after I bought it my wife left me. Now I'm getting divorced and it really sucks. I looked for this exact car for about a year before I found it. I finally found it and now I have to sell it. Life's not fair. I can really only tell you what the previous owner told me about the car. It's a good daily driver but to make it a show piece will take some work. The body is in pretty good condition. It has the normal stress cracks for a 37 year old vette. The chrome is in very good condition. The 4 speed transmission shifts as it should and the car runs like a raped ape. The previous owner had the engine rebuilt. He said he spent over 6K on the rebuild and he gave me a photo album detailing the rebuild. The builder told him it's around 500hp and I'd have to say it's pretty close! He said the motor was original as far as he knew but it was stroked to a 383. It has aluminum heads and an aluminum Edelbrock Performer intake, 4 barrel double pumper Barry Grant Holly Carb, aftermarket distributer, valve covers and geared timing (which makes it sound like it's supercharged). Whether or not this is a numbers matching car is anybody's guess. He said it was but I don't know anything about that.
The odometer shows a little over 80K but it doesn't work (he didn't tell me that when I bought it). The speedometer works. All of the other guages work besides the tach (the new distributer wouldn't accept the factory plug for the tach) and the clock. There isn't a radio or speakers in the car. The previous owner told me the headlights work but the vacuum hoses aren't hooked up so you have to put them up and down manually. I can verify that all of the lights work including the high/low beams. One of the headlights needs a new bezel to hold it in. There are three screws that hold the bezel over the headlight and they are missing. As soon as I bought it (before I knew I was getting divorced) I was all over the Ecklers and Mid America Corvette websites and the new headlight bezel was less than $10.00. The wipers are not on the car either. He said that he had them off to restore the car and never put them back on. The wiper motor and most of the pieces to complete the project are included. The car came with a box full of new and used parts but I have no idea what some of the stuff is. I thought I'd have a couple of years to figure everything out, tinker around with it and restore it. Unfortunately, I don't. It's killing me to sell this car. The car has a New York Inspection until March 2010. The previous owner lived in New York. It will not pass PA inspection because the wipers aren't on it. I drove it home from New York (about 300 miles) and had no problems at all but I noticed that it is leaking oil. It lost about a half a quart on that drive. I can't tell where it's leaking from because the fan blew it around the engine compartment and it ran back on the frame (making my garage floor look pretty awful). Some of the parts included are the wiper motor, new interior panels/gaskets, four tail lights, new orange front turn signal covers, new chrome exhaust exit bezels, some kind of relay, lots of rubber bushings, several screw kits, a Mid America book which shows every single nut and bolt on the car (it's like a super detailed shop manual, I guess), new lock mechanisms, new weather stripping for one of the doors, I think...and a bunch of other stuff. I don't know what all of it is. It will take some work to make it perfect. April 29, 2009.
1) The headlights do work, but I bought a new air pump for them which I have not installed yet. The wiper arms are off the car as well because the pump is the wiper motor also. I never worried about the wipers because I never drove the car in the rain. To make it a show piece it would take some work. All the chrome on the car are in excellent condition. The car was recently inspected. The motor was professionally rebuilt, original block as far as I know. The block has been stroked to a 383. Aluminum heads, intake, and Barry Grant carb. The car is around 500 hp from what the builder told me. I have 6k plus invested in the motor alone. With the car being 36 years old it does have your typical Corvette stress cracks and such in the fiberglass here and there, but overall the body is in pretty good condition. 81,000 miles. March 17, 2009.
