Car history:
1969 Chevrolet Corvette 427 L88 Bloomington Gold Level 4 Survivor! Hidden away for over thirty years, its appearances before the Bloomington Gold judges and as a feature car at Chevy Vettefest have wowed the Corvette community. Most recently the car was an invitee to the Bloomington Gold “L88 Invasion” Special Collection. This exemplary Survivor powerhouse will stand on its own as a centerpiece of any diverse collection of special sports or muscle cars. Although made available to the public as a Regular-Production-Ordered automobile between 1967 and 1969, these racing-fuel-only 560+ horsepower Supercars were never intended for the street. The brainchild of Corvette guru, Zora Arkus-Duntov and designed and thoroughly tested to be Chevrolet's answer to the AC Cobra, these cars proved to be the fastest and best handling/braking Chevrolets of their generation. Offered for your consideration is one of these incredible performers,
"The Camouflaged Soldier". One of a select few specially ordered as a street racer, this Fathom Green 1969 4-speed (one of only 99 total) was delivered with a saddle leather interior, tilt/tele steering and alarm system. In addition to these comfort options the car came with the full array of mandatory L88 racing components: F-41 heavy-duty suspension, G-81 positraction axle, J-50 power brakes, J-56 racing brake system, K-66 transistorized ignition, M-22 heavy-duty 4-speed close ratio transmission, Special ducted fresh air hood, Aluminum radiator/no fan shroud (4 spd. only), 103 Octane warning label (on console),
Non-available options: radio/pwr. steering/pwr. windows/air cond.
A true rarity, this car has been judged a Level 4 Survivor by Bloomington Gold - paint, interior, chassis and driveline all qualify for this exclusive status. One of very few L88s to remain in its unmolested condition, it is considered by experts to be a true example of how these factory racers were built. L88 News & Info: Some of the questions posted have shown a basic lack of knowledge regarding L88 facts (in addition to some unsubstantiated claims). Here are some indisputable details on L88s, from truley knowledgable L88 experts: As to the pad suffix, the “IT” is absolutely correct for this car and all L88s produced until about June ’69 (approx. serial #22000). Contrary to what the NCRS has published in the past, ALL L88 (4-speeds) made before this date (with the exception of the 4 light-weight racers) have “IT” engines. “IT” are the closed-chamber engines; “LO” are the open-chamber ones!! As far as the date code stamped on this engine, it is NOT too early as was implied; L88s normally received motors built earlier than most others in the Corvette inventory. Unlike a normal production Vette (where the engine and car were built within a few days or weeks of each other), the L88s often received their specially blueprinted powerplants, assembled months previous. Again, the date of this car’s engine is in perfect alignment with all other known L88 examples.
Being Chevy’s top performance car and one of the rarest GM ever produced, the details of the L88 are very often misunderstood by the general public. Combine this with the lack of expertise by the unqualified “know-it-alls” in the car world and you will inevitably encounter confusion. The engine including the pad stamping was scrutinized by Bloomington Gold judges (in 2007) and determined to be showing no deviances from original. Far from “a very bad restamp”, the numbers and broach marks have been Judged by the leading authorities as correct and accurate for this L88 . This car is well known and has been inspected by top experts in the L88 Corvette field including, Kevin Mackay. While it may be the case that the internet (inc. eBay) is notorious for sometimes misrepresented and downright fraudulent claims, this is something that we would never knowingly, be associated with. This car has proven itself to be as depicted; an Authentic and Real, 1 of 116, 1969 L88 Survivor Corvettes. Stefano Bimbi, CEO.
Q) Sir, You made a rookie mistake....this car was forsale on ebay last year or early this year. It was listed as a non original motor car for around $30,000. Now all of a sudden its a real L88? Why is the suffix wrong on the pad? Is this car a 1968 or 1969? You have a very bad restamp on your hands. What are you going to tell your wife now? Sep-24-08
A: My wife is really mad at Me, but that is besides the point. Can you email me that old listing, I sure would like to see it. Who was responsible for sending out invitations for the L88 Invasion at Bloomington Gold this year? Were there any other non L88s invited in as the real deal? Also, shouldn't survivor judging have picked up on the wrong stamps, codes or dates. Please advise. The "Rookie".
Q: Hello, What a joke.... I own number 10584 (featured in VETTE Magazine) and my engine stamp date is 1204. They totally blew your restamp because the code on your car is for a 1968..not a 1969. Should be 'LO' ..not 'IT' . Your date is also way early. This car was also for sale on ebay last year as a NOM car. My question is.... why would you ever think the corvette community would take you serious? Thank you. Sep-24-08
A: Dear Mr. Corvette Community, Please see and read my previous reply. I explained the info and which I have and that which has been provided by others, in the "Corvette Community." Are you stating that this is not an L88 Corvette and that it has not been Awarded Survivor Status by Bloomington Gold Judges? Thank you for your concerns. Your info has been noted.
Q: this car has a restamp in it right ? Sep-24-08
A: We have never restamped any engine or part. We do not support or approve this practice. This Corvette has been to Major National level Judged Events; 1)Bloomington Gold, where it was awarded a Survivor Award and 2)The Chevy Vette Fest Nationals, where it was awarded a Silver Spinner award. The VIN of the car matches the P-O-P as well as the stamping on the Block Deck. The date on the block deck also Matches the P-O-P. The current owner/L88 collector (he has another L88 which he has owned for two decades) has spoken to previous owners and they confirm the originality of this L88 engine. He will sign an affidavit that "to the best of his knowledge", this engine is not a restamp, for the new owner. A clear picture of the engine pad has been posted so that you may make your own judgement. Of the appoximate 200 or so found L88 Corvettes built in 1967,'68 and '69, less than 15% are believed to still have their original Born with engines. If you are interested to purchase this or other Real Deal L88 Corvettes please contact me direct. 630-377-1222 Stefano Bimbi, CEO Nickey Chicago, Inc Stefano Bimbi, CEO. 47,735 miles.
