| Car history: |
Posted 07/15/2019 This is a Silver Anniversary Corvette with special Silver paint. That makes enough sense, but it is also in part, because Bill Mitchell, designer extraordinaire who was responsible for so many ground-breaking cars at GM, liked silver, and insisted on it for this car as he was heading out the door to retire. This car was actually the first two-tone 'Vette to be offered since the 1961 models, and we believe that it is the original paint. The '78 C3s received a nice updated look with a dramatic new fastback rear window. It improved aerodynamics, gave better visibility, and provided more usable luggage space. Up front, an anniversary badge leads the way on the nose and another one graces the fuel cap out back. Tinted T-roofs give you the option of going topless on nice summer days, or even nice fall days if you take a ride to check out the changing leaves. Aluminum wheels look great, and while the ones pictured on the car are replacements, the original wheels and tires are included with this car. Open the door and you will find an Oyster White interior which complements the silver nicely, and also appears to be all original. The door panel has a nice long armrest along with a switch for the power locks and a little door pocket. Settle into the comfortable leather bucket seat and reach out for the white three-spoke steering wheel mounted on a tilt and telescoping column. There are crossed racing flags in the center and a large speedo and tach behind it. Gauges for water temp, oil pressure and voltage as well as the fuel gauge and a clock are in the center console just over an updated Sony stereo. Ventilation controls are mounted just below that, including those for the factory air conditioning. In the floor console is the shifter for the automatic transmission as well as the power window switches. There is plenty of storage space behind the seats for both T-roofs and picnic baskets or travel bags, so feel free to head out for a nice open-air cruise. Pop the hood and you will find a wonderfully stock engine bay with the original, numbers matching L-82 motor that is barely through break -in nestled down inside. The original black, dual snorkel air filter housing feed air to the original Rochester 4-barrel carburetor. There has been a newer brake booster installed along with a newer wiper motor, and the A/C has been updated to R134A. Everything is gloriously stock and unmolested as it was delivered from the factory, and a bit of detailing would bring it back to like new appearance very nicely. Power flows back through a 3-speed automatic transmission to the rear wheels. The wheels and tires on the car are actually replacements, however the original wheels and tires that were on the car at delivery are also included. The rubber meets the road through 225/70R15 tires all around. |
