| Car history: |
Here’s something you don’t see everyday, a Bloomington Gold Corvette (in 1986), always stored indoors, with only 1101 miles on it!
The owner’s story: “I purchased this Corvette new on 8/13/80 from Delaney Chevrolet of Indiana, PA. The car won many awards as I showed it at National Council of Corvette Clubs events throughout PA, OH, NJ, WV, MD, KY, and IL. The Corvette was certified 100% original and functional at Bowling Green , KY , August 1984. Received Bloomington Gold Certification June 1986, from the National Corvette Certification Board. After Bloomington I sold the Corvette to a private owner with only 717 miles on it to finance another project in 1990. I kept track of the car for 15 years. After two private owners, the Corvette was in Bud Moore’s collection in St. Mary’s, OH. Then the Bob McDorman collection in Columbus , OH . I bought it back at Bob McDorman’s auction in July 2005 with only 1,098 miles on it”. He continues: “The Corvette is 100% authentic. All original hoses, belts, tires, etc. All fasteners are GM-installed at St. Louis , MO factory. 1980 was the last year of operation for St. Louis . I also have copies of all original documention”.
DETAILS OF CAR:
[ Paint ] – The owner said when he bought the car there were some paint flaws, so the car received a complete repaint (paid by Chevrolet). Unfortunately, the factory-painted Corvettes were not always the best quality.
He says it is original, professional, lacquer paint, as it came from the factory. It is nice, shiny, and matches well. We did not detect any nicks, chips, trash, or orange peel in the paint, except for a small paint chip behind the handle on the passenger door. We did see an occasional light swirl mark from where it was waxed, but it could probably be taken out with the proper wax
[ Body ] – The body is very straight, and fits correctly, just as it came from the factory. The gaps and seams are very good quality. The owner tells us the car was never in an accident.
[ Glass ] – The glass is original. We did not detect any discoloration, delmanition, or bulls-eyes. We did see tiny flea bites on the windshield. There is a 1” scratch on the driver’s window. (see photo below)
[ Interior ] – The interior is original OEM and just looks beautiful. It is extremely smooth and soft. The color looks great; we did not detect any fading. The seats are finely stitched. The headliner looks excellent and the visors are soft and supple. The door panels do not show any wear or scuffs. The carpet looks great, and is does not show any fading. The dash does not have any scratches or nicks. The door seals look like new. The entire interior just looks fabulous.
[ Tires and Wheels ] – All 4 tires are the original tires that came with the car. They are Goodyear Eagle GT tires, size P255 60R 15. The spare is also original – it is a Goodyear Poly tires, size P195 80D 15. The driver’s side tires measure about 10/32 tread. The passenger side measures about 9/32.
The lacquer paint on the driver’s side front and rear wheels is starting to peel (see photos).
[ Engine ] – When we looked under the hood, everything appeared to be original. Nothing looks like it was altered or added.
[ Chassis ] – Underneath, everything appeared original and left untouched. The exhaust shows light surface rust.
[ Mechanical ] – The owner tells us the car is all original mechanically, except the right front caliper was replaced. He adds that the car “works perfectly…the brakes work 100%...the engine starts and idles properly…(and) the transmission works 100%”.
