Car history:
The guy who drove this 1971 Corvette LS5 convertible home from the dealership
was well and truly The Man. 365 horsepower, Mille Miglia Red, a 4-speed manual,
and factory A/Cyeah, this was a big boys toy and there wasnt much that could
touch it on the street in 71.

You find a matching-numbers car like this, you take your time making it right. The
bodywork is nicely done, and we have a photo album of the restoration that shows
it being stripped to bare fiberglass and refinished from there. You cant beat bright
Mille Miglia Red on a Corvette, a pure red that is neither too dark nor too close to
orange, and with the big block hood, chrome bumpers, and always-stunning Sting
Ray shape, this car has definite eyeball appeal. Fit and finish are quite good but
that only means that you shouldnt be afraid to drive it. Correct badges, including
the 454 on the hood, have all been either restored or replaced, the chrome
bumpers, amber parking light lenses, and rectangular exhaust tips are all just as
the factory intended, too.

A matching bright red interior looks almost new, as well. 1971 was a good year for
Corvettes, as all the bugs of the C3 had finally been worked out, and one of the
latest features were the built-in light monitors in the center console, which used
fiber-optic cables to keep an eye on bulbs at the far corners of the car. Of course,
you also got the same great bucket seats, and with the LS5 engine, you could get
options like factory A/C making this a very user-friendly Corvette. This one also
carries options like the U79 AM/FM stereo radio (still pretty unusual for 1971), UA6
factory alarm system, and N40 power steering, among others. In fact, the interior
might be even nicer than the bodywork, which is definitely saying something about
the quality found throughout this car. Youll note that even the white convertible
top fits snugly and the rear window remains clear. Nice!

The engine is the vaunted LS5, which, in 1971, was still rated at a very impressive
365 horsepower, despite a switch to net horsepower ratings. This one is the original,
numbers-matching block, rebuilt with a few invisible internal upgrades like a roller
cam, and the entire rotating assembly was balanced. With less than 2,000 miles
on the build, it barks to life and offers mountainous torque at any speed, so make
sure its pointed in the right direction before you bury the loud pedal. The original
Muncie M20 4-speed wide ratio gearbox feels indestructible, and while C3s have a
reputation for rattles, this one goes down the road with a tight, solid feeling thats
hard to describe but easy to appreciate. The exhaust system is a fresh Flowmaster
setup, and classic Rallys wear 225/60/15 Goodyears.

Nicely documented with tank sticker, Protect-O-Plate, booklets, receipts, and a
restoration album, this is an investment-grade Vette that you can drive with confidence.
