Expertly restored to concours condition, this multiple-award-winning 1968 Chevrolet Corvette Convertible is one of the most celebrated examples in the Corvette community. Built on June 11, 1968, it was delivered new to Vincent Chevrolet in Ypsilanti, Michigan, and retains its original matching-numbers L71 427/435 HP Turbo-Jet Mark IV V-8 engine with triple 2-barrel Holley tri-power induction, a solid-lifter camshaft and dual exhaust, backed by a Muncie M21 close ratio 4-speed manual transmission. Additional options included K66 transistorized ignition, Code 974 Rally Red paint, a black convertible soft top and auxiliary hardtop, a black vinyl interior, simulated wood-rim steering wheel, AM/FM radio and Firestone redline tires on Rally wheels.
This reference-grade 1968 Corvette has amassed an impressive array of top awards. In 2017, it was inducted into the Bloomington Gold Special Collection at Indianapolis Motor Speedway and won NCRS Chapter Top Flight honors at the North Central, Midway and Kansas City meets. The year 2018 brought more awards, including a perfect score on Operations at the NCRS National Convention in Las Vegas, Best of Show at the Nebraska Corvette Association All Corvette Show, and another induction to the Bloomington Gold Special Collection, this time at the Hendrick Museum. It also picked up prizes at Corvettes at Carlisle, where it was chosen for the 1968 50th Anniversary Display Collection, and the Muscle Car and Corvette Nationals, where it was honored with both Concours Gold and the Triple Diamond Award.
This multiple-award-winning 427/435 HP convertible is accompanied by extensive documentation that includes: a copy of the Protect-O-Plate showing retail delivery on June 25, 1968; the original tank sticker; a three-day pass for Bloomington Gold 2019 featuring this car; Bloomington Gold Special Display magazines featuring this car; Bloomington Gold, NCRS and MCACN awards, judging sheets and ribbons; NCRS Validation Certificate and Shipping Data Report; Bloomington Gold and NCRS judging and displays on a flash drive; and an extensive photo collection of the restoration, part numbers and date codes. This is truly a sensational find for the dedicated Corvette collector. |
