Optioned with: Power Brakes, Power Steering, Heavy Duty Clutch, 427/435hp Motor, M21 4 Speed Transmission, TI, Am/Fm Radio, Posi 3.55, F41 Special Suspension, Tinted Windsheild. It was a Sunday afternoon and I came into the office to catch up on some paperwork. Reluctantly I answered an incoming phone call. The voice on the other end said he had an interesting car to sell. I said, "Explain." He mentioned that in 1969 he ordered a Black 435 Coupe from Don Allen Chevrolet in PA, for a buddy named Bill Menzel, who was soon to return from Vietnam. The both of them enjoyed fast cars and he thought it would be interesting to order the Heavy Duty Clutch option. Not realizing, of course, how rare a Black/Black '69 435 with that option was going to be. When Bill came back from Vietnam, he enjoyed the car for about a year until he sold it to Massie on January 21, 1971, the same guy who ordered it new. Massie kept that car until 2005 when I immediately contacted a NCRS/Bloomington Judge to inspect it for me. After close scrutiny, I negotiated a deal and bought the car over the phone. The Money was going to be used to send Massie's daughter to College. the story continues and will be happy to share it with you if you have a desire to buy the car. Absolutely Fabulous Tuxedo Black/Black Interior, 427/435 HP, 4 Speed Corvette. This one’s a real time capsule featuring an un-hit body with very nice paint and matching numbers drive train. It drives like it just came off the showroom floor in 1969. This Extremely Rare Specimen has been inspected by the best and cannot find any evidence of body damage anywhere. This Corvette is FACTORY STRAIGHT. This vehicle is a STRONG candidate for Bloomington Survivor. These low mileage and extremely well cared for Corvettes are getting harder and harder to find and their owners are refusing to let them go. Add to that the rarest color combination and you have the recipe for huge future appreciation.
The car was built in October 1969 and is one of 2722 RPO L71 435 HP Cars and is a real Tuxedo Black paint car. It is also one of 102 equipped with a Heavy Duty Clutch! These stats combined with the survivor qualities and mileage of this car and you are talking one of several at best. This 1969 Corvette has to be one of the nicest and rarest survivors on the planet. You can just tell this car was owned by car freaks its whole life. The true test of a really nice survivor car is if the patina matches on all areas of the car. This car has the same patina no matter where you look. It sports that look of just “slightly” used. In the Survivor Class I would give it a 9.6 out of 10… it is just that nice.
CONDITION: Engine and Trans: The 427/435 HP engine is the original matching numbers. The car runs flawlessly. The 4 Speed Transmission shifts well and the car tracks down the road straight, true and effortlessly. These 435HP engines are incredibly strong and we believe it to be untampered. This is one of the finest running L71 Corvettes I have ever driven. The Pad clearly and correctly reads TO922LT 19S731205.
Exterior: We have been ALL OVER this car and can find no place where the car has been hit or damaged significantly in any way. This body appears to be a VIRGIN. The paint is very nice everywhere. The Chrome is in excellent original condition, there is some minor scratches but is a strong 8 – 9 out of 10. All the stainless and trim are in excellent condition. All the badges are in excellent condition. The Hood, Doors, and all body panel gaps are excellent on this vehicle. Most parts on this car are dated and numbered correctly. You will truly be amazed at the correctness of this car.
Interior: Door Panels, Paint Surfaces, Chrome Bumpers are all in absolutely wonderful condition and appear to be some to mostly original. The Seats and Carpet are Outstanding and almost too difficult to believe they could be original for an almost forty year old vehicle. The Trim Tag Reads: Trim ZQ4, Paint 900.The Weather Stripping on the car is in extremely good shape in all the door panels, and hood areas and there appears to be no cracking. Everything is exactly how it should be. All Four Rally wheels are in excellent original condition. The Tires are in great shape and the car tracks down the road straight as an arrow with your hands off the wheel at any speed. The reason we don’t think this car was ever a daily driver is because the undercarriage is just so nice and original. The underside has not been sprayed black to try and hide anything. You can show it and appreciate the wonderful original condition. This Corvette represents the best of both worlds. It will sit right up with the best restored cars in overall condition and be the absolute top of the mark in a Survivor Award Category. Corvettes like this do not come along often and at Barrett Jackson the survivor cars were bringing the best money this past week. Motor suffix code is T0922LT. Colors from the trim plate. Built date is O02. 12,622 miles from the odometer. March 7, 2009.
1) 1969 Corvette T-Top, 427-435 hp, 4 speed (LT coded for HD clutch - numbers match and appears to be the real deal), 12,593 actual miles. Tuxedo Black paint with Black interior. Excellent paint on a NO HIT car with the original interior. Also has excellent chrome and newer brakes and tires. Very desirable Tuxedo Black exterior. Optioned with the super rare heavy duty clutch (one of 102 produced), power steering, power brakes, headrests, transistorized ignition, M-21, 4.11 posi, F-41 special heavy duty suspension, SS brakes, AM/FM radio, tinted glass, rallys, and Firestone F-70x15" raised white lettered tires. Most all factory correct type components including the spare, jack, jack tools, T-Top bags, F-41 shocks, seat belts, washer system, shifter, shielding, braided wires, air cleaner, owners manual, and sales brochure. Documented with the tank sticker (build sheet), warranty pamphlet/P.O.P., owners manual packet, and some owner history which indicates a three owner car. Very low mile fully documented Tuxedo Black 435 hp car that looks, runs, and drives excellent.
