1969 CHEVROLET CORVETTE CONVERTIBLE. THIS CAR HAS A NON ORIGINAL BIG BLOCK 427 WITH MUNCIE 4-SPEED AND 355 GEARS. THE CAR JUST RECENTLY UNDERWENT AN EXTENSIVE (AND EXPENSIVE I MIGHT ADD) DRIVE LINE AND SUSPENSION REFURB THAT I WILL TRY TO DESCRIBE IN THE BEST DETAIL THAT I CAN. A BIT OF HISTORY ON THE CAR FIRST. THE CAR WAS OFF THE ROAD FOR ABOUT 10 YEARS WHERE IT SAT IN A GARAGE WITH A BLOWN MOTOR. THE OWNER AT THE TIME DECIDED TO DO A COMPLETE SUSPENSION OVERHAUL AND REPLACE THE BLOWN 350 WITH A BIG BLOCK 427. HE PULLED THE MOTOR OUT AND ACQUIRED TONS OF PARTS BUT NEVER REALLY DID ANYTHING ELSE. I BOUGHT IT AND RECENTLY GOT THE CAR TO THE POINT IT IS AT NOW BUT UNFORTUNATELY A JOB CHANGE FORCES ME TO PASS IT ON TO THE NEXT GUY. ALMOST ALL OF THE BIG MONEY MECHANICAL STUFF IS DONE. I WILL START THE DESCRIPTION WITH THE 427. THIS ENGINE IS ALL NEW WITH LITTLE EXPENSE SPARED. THE BUILD STARTED WITH A VERY NICE 1973 454 BLOCK. THE BLOCK WAS CLEANED AND BORES DONE .030 OVER. THE BLOCK WAS ALIGN BORED AND DECKED. ALL INTERNAL CASTING FLASH GROUND SMOOTH. AN EAGLE FORGED 427 CRANK AND RODS INSTALLED WITH NEW BEARINGS AND 4 BOLT MAIN CAPS. ALL ARP HARDWARE USED. KEITH BLACK PISTONS WERE ATTACHED WITH FULL FLOATING PINS. THE ROTATING ASSEMBLY WAS BALANCED WITHIN 7 GRAMS. A CUSTOM GRIND ISKENDERIAN STREET/STRIP ROLLER CAM WAS INSTALLED. THE CAM LIFT IS 578 ON THE INTAKE, 608 EXHAUST. DURATION INTAKE 238 AND EXHAUST 248. THE HEADS ARE REAL 1969 RECTANGLE PORT 435HP TRI POWER PIECES. CASTING NUMBER 3918840. THE HEADS WERE RESURFACED AND 3 ANGLE VALVE JOB WAS DONE. STAINLESS STEEL VALVES INSTALLED WITH HIGH RPM SPRINGS AND CROWER KEEPERS. ARP STUDS WITH CRANE GUIDE PLATES. COMP CAMS HYDRAULIC ROLLER LIFTERS, CHROME MOLY PUSHRODS, AND FULL ROLLER ROCKERS INSTALLED. INTAKE MANIFOLD IS A 1970 LS6 PIECE. WATER PUMP IS EDELBROCK HIGH VOLUME. THE CARBURETOR IS NEW HOLLY 780 STREET AVENGER WITH ELECTRIC CHOKE AND VACUUM SECONDARIES. THE DISTRIBUTOR NEW HEI WITH MECHANICAL TACH PROVISION. HARMONIC BALANCER IS A NEW 8 INCH PROFESSIONAL PRODUCTS RACING UNIT. EVERYTHING ON THIS MOTOR IS BRAND NEW AND COST 10K TO DO. THE TRANSMISSION IS THE ORIGINAL MUNCIE M21 THAT WAS COMPLETELY OVERHAULED AND STRENGTHENED FOR INCREASED POWER. A BRAND NEW COMPETITION PLUS HURST SHIFTER AND LINKAGE INSTALLED. THE FLYWHEEL WAS RESURFACED AND BALANCED WITH A NEW CENTERFORCE CLUTCH AND PRESSURE PLATE. ALL ATTACHED WITH ARP HARDWARE. THE REAR END WAS REBUILT WITH NEW BEARINGS AND 355 GEARS. REAR END COVER IS HEAVY DUTY. THE DRIVE SHAFT WAS BALANCED AND NEW U JOINTS INSTALLED. AFTER DRIVE LINE WAS IN OE BIG BLOCK EXHAUST MANIFOLDS WERE INSTALLED WITH ARP BOLTS AND STAINLESS STUDS. THE EXHAUST SYSTEM IS A BRAND NEW 2.5 INCH ALUMINIZED DYNOMAX KIT INSTALLED WITH ALL NEW REPRO. HANGERS. A NEW BIG BLOCK CORE SUPPORT WAS SET UP WITH A LARGE DIRECT FIT ALUMINUM RADIATOR AND REPRO FAN SHROUD. A NEW REMAN POWER STEERING PUMP WAS INSTALLED WITH NEW HOSES (ALL 4 OF THEM). THAT PESKY STEERING RAG JOINT WAS REPLACED. THE POWER STEERING VALVE AND RAM ARE OE. ALL NEW REPRO PULLEYS WERE INSTALLED WITH NEW BELTS AND A NEW FAN. NEW ALTERNATOR, STARTER, AND WIPER MOTOR. NEW BATTERY CABLES AND ENGINE WIRING HARNESS. I COULD KEEP GOING UNDER THE HOOD BUT THE POINT IS...ALMOST EVERYTHING INCLUDING THE NUTS AND BOLTS IS NEW. THE FRONT SUSPENSION WAS DISASSEMBLED. ALL NEW URETHANE BUSHINGS INSTALLED. ALL HARDWARE REPLACED WITH GRADE 8 OR BETTER. ALL NEW BALL JOINTS INSTALLED. NEW TIE ROD ENDS, ETC. NEW VBP 1 INCH SWAY BAR INSTALLED. NEW BIG BLOCK SPRINGS UP FRONT. THE REAR TRAILING ARMS WERE SHOT PEENED AND FITTED WITH NEW POLY BUSHINGS. THE REAR SPRING WAS REPLACED WITH A VBP FIBERGLASS COMPOSITE UNIT. ADJUSTABLE POLY STRUT RODS WERE USED. ONCE AGAIN, ALL HARDWARE GRADE 8 OR BETTER. THE BRAKES, ALL NEW. NEW ROTORS WITH BEARINGS. NEW STAINLESS SLEEVED CALIPERS WITH METALLIC PADS. STAINLESS BRAIDED CALIPER LINES. NEW STAINLESS E BRAKE SET WITH ALL NEW E BRAKE CABLES AND ASSOCIATED HARDWARE. NEW MASTER CYLINDER AND FLUID. THE BRAKES WORK PERFECT. THE WHEELS ARE OE. THE TIRES ARE BRAND NEW 255/60/15 BFG T/A'S. THE BODY ON THIS CAR IS ALL ORIGINAL. WHEN I TOWED THE CAR OVER TO THE VET SHOP TO GET THE ALIGNMENT IT WAS NOTED THAT THE CAR HAD NEVER BEEN HIT OR MESSED WITH. THE PAINT JOB IS ABOUT 12 YEARS OLD . IT IS NOT PERFECT. IT HAS SOME OF THE CLASSIC STRESSING HERE AND THERE. THERE IS SOME STONE NICKS AND PAINT CHIPS. THERE IS A DECENT SIZED PAINT CHIP RIGHT AT THE NOSE. IT COULD BE FIXED. NEW CHROME NUMBERS AND MOLDING INSTALLED ON THE HOOD. THE GOOD NEWS IS THAT THE CAR IS VERY NICE LOOKING JUST THE WAY IT IS. THE PAINT JOB WAS DONE RIGHT BACK THEN. IT LOOKS MORE STRAIGHT THAN ALOT OF THESE CARS I SEE AROUND. THE WEATHER STRIPPING IS OE AND SOME OF IT NEEDS ATTENTION. THE CHROME IS NICE. THERE IS WORK TO BE DONE IF YOU WANT A SHOW QUALITY RIDE BUT FOR THE WEEKEND CAR SHOW TYPE THIS CAR FITS RIGHT IN. THE INTERIOR IS MOSTLY OE. THE DASH IS NICE WITH NO CRACK. THE FACTORY LEATHER SEATS ARE NOT TORN OR DISCOLORED. ALL GAUGES WORK. DOOR BUZZER AND SEATBELT LIGHT EVEN WORK. THE RADIO IS ONE OF THOSE DIRECT FIT CORVETTE AM/FM CASSETTES. ALL SEATBELTS ARE THERE AND NICE. THE CARPET IS ORIGINAL AND NOT NICE AT ALL. IT NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THE PLASTIC E BRAKE CONSOLE PART HAS SOME BLEMISHES. A NEW SHIFTER HANDLE THAT LOOKS JUST LIKE THE ORIGINAL WAS INSTALLED. THE INTERIOR JUST NEEDS THE DETAIL WORK TO BE VERY NICE. THE SOFT TOP IS DISCOLORED AND LOOKS OLD, IT PROBABLY NEEDS REPLACING. I NEVER HAD IT ALL THE WAY OUT AS THE HARD TOP THAT COMES WITH THE CAR LOOKS REALLY NICE. FOR THE THINGS THAT I DID NOT GET TO. THE WIPER MOTOR AND WASHER PUMP ARE NEW. I DID NOT PLUG THE HARNESS INTO THEM AS THE VACUUM SYSTEM FOR THE WIPER DOOR NEEDS GONE THROUGH. THE VACUUM ACTUATOR IS SHOT AND NEEDS TO BE REPLACED. THE HEADLIGHTS GO UP BUT WILL NOT COME DOWN. I REPLACED THE UNDERHOOD VACUUM SYSTEM VALVE BUT I SUSPECT A PROBLEM AT THE SWITCH. THE HEADLIGHT ACTUATORS HAVE BEEN TESTED AND ARE GOOD. THE OE REVERSE LIGHT SWITCH DOES NOT WORK. THIS CAR HAS JUST RECENTLY BECOME ROAD WORTHY. THE CAM HAS BEEN BROKEN IN AND THE ENGINE RUN FOR ABOUT 2 HOURS TOTAL. THE CAR HAS ABOUT 5 MILES ON IT SINCE IT WAS STARTED. I NEVER LICENSED THE CAR AND HAVE ONLY DRIVEN IT AROUND THE NEIGHBORHOOD. IT SOUNDS VERY HEALTHY. THE FINAL TUNING I WILL LEAVE TO THE NEW OWNER. I'M SURE I MISSED MANY THINGS THAT WERE DONE BUT I HAVE A STACK OF RECEIPTS THAT LOOKS LIKE PHONE BOOK. ALL SAID, THIS IS A NEAT CAR THAT HAS ALL OF THE HEAVY WORK DONE AND DONE RIGHT. 110,000 miles.
