| Car history: |
Seven Hills Motorcars is proud to offer this original 1980 Corvette with the original numbers matching 350 L82 engine. This Corvette has been driven just over 92,400 original miles since new. This car is a great driver Corvette that needs nothing and is essentially, "turn key." The car is in its original color combination of Dark Claret over Claret leather, this is verified by the trim tag with is pictured below. Also pictured on the trim tag is the code for the build date of the car, I18. "I" corresponds to June so this car rolled off the assembly line in St. Louis on June 18, 1980. Stamped on the engine pad is V0609ZBC. "V" means this block is from the Flint, MI engine plant. "0609" is the build date of the engine, June 9, 1980, which is correct as it predates the build date of the car. "ZBC" is a suffix code that means that this block was intended for an L-82 with automatic transmission, such is this car. The block casting date is "E 30 0." The "E" corresponds to May, "30" is the thirtieth day of the month, and "0" is the calendar year. So this block was cast on May 30, 1980, which is correct as it predates both the build date of the car and assembly date of the engine. Most importantly, the last six digits of the VIN, 433226, are stamped on the engine pad meaning this is the original "numbers matching" engine.
Exterior The Corvette’s Dark Claret paint is in excellent driver condition. The paint has a dazzling gloss. There are no major scratches, scrapes, or cracks in the paint that have been excluded from the photos. There are some spots in the paint that around the car were too small to show in in photos, but nothing that is very noticeable from 5 feet away. Often many Corvettes have rock chips on the front end. This Corvette shows little front end wear. Photos of the low front end and front spoiler area included to show the excellent condition there as that area is so fragile and prone to damage and wear. I intentionally included photos that highlight the worst spots on the car, specially the chips on the rear window and the very light bubbling on the hood. Those spots are much less noticeable in person or in natural light. The original aluminum wheels are in great shape with no curb rash. The car looks just as good in person as it does in the photos.
Interior The Claret Leather interior of this Corvette is in splendid condition. The seats in this vehicle are in nice shape with no excessive wear and look in person just as they do in the photos. I have specifically included a photo of the area where the driver gets in and out because this it is so prone to rips and splitting. The carpet shows well with no rips or tears, this includes the rear carpet which is often neglected. All of the gauges work, with the obvious exception of the clock. The dash and center console look great and have no sun fading or cracks. The door panels look fine and fit tightly to the door. Also, the wood inserts are of very nice quality and made specially for this year Corvette. This car has not been smoked in, there is no ash in the ashtray and no odor what so ever.
Mechanical This car is in fine mechanical condition. The car starts right away, idles well, and runs well. It is very fast with the extra horsepower from the original L-82 engine. The Corvette drives very well. It is tight on the road and at highway speeds. There is no smoke when starting or driving the car. The 3 Speed transmission shifts well. The brakes stop the car powerfully and do not pull to one side or the other. The headlight pop up without excessive effort or binding. There are a coupe of items that are not functional and do not affect the drivability of the car, these include the cruise control, power locks, and the a/c, which as a crack in one of the lines. The exhaust has a very healthy tone from pair of Flowmaster mufflers. This Corvette has no rust issues. I have seen no evidence of corrosion on the frame near the rear tire or on the "A" pillar near the windshield.
Overall Condition Overall, the condition of this 1980 Corvette is terrific. Numbers matching is extremely important in Corvette pricing and a must for any Corvette that can be taken seriously as a investment or show car.. The prices of Corvettes from 1980 to 1982 has increased drastically over the past several years. They are all solid investments for a collector. You can drive and enjoy this vehicle for several years and sell it for more than your purchase price. The Corvette always turns heads and is admired by every car enthusiast.
