So what does an 8,400 mile Corvette look like? Well, that can vary a lot, but since this one spent the better part of 26 years tucked away in a garage in Alabama, it looks like new! That’s all original paint you’re looking at from the front to rear, and it’s much nicer than most Corvettes of this vintage. All of the black anodized trim is excellent, the wheels are shiny and bright and all lenses and emblems are excellent. There’s a set of 1,000-mile-old Goodyears on the car for safety, a new battery, a new air filter, all new fluids and a pair of rear calipers, but otherwise the car is completely stock! It goes without saying that if it’s original paint there’s no body damage or accident history, too—this is a clean car! Drop underneath to see the super clean chassis. The body’s perfect under here, too, the frame is completely clean, the suspension’s tight and all original components from the shocks to the heat shields on the exhaust are in place. Those are the original mufflers, the original rear spring (the last year for the multileaf unit) and all original bushings. Why would anything be changed? The car’s practically new! Open the hood to see 1980 all over again. You want original? Yes—those are the original belts, hoses, date coded spark plug wires, paint, stickers, finishes...like I said, the air filter, the fluids and the battery, and that’s it! The brake booster is still gold anodized, the A/C still works (really) and the headlight vacuum pods are so clean you could call them NOS. That’s the original paint on the motor, even! Sit inside on the very comfortable, very clean seats. Power everything is at your command, from windows to locks to the antenna, there’s cruise control on your tilt wheel, the uplevel AM/FM/cassette deck with rear speakers and leather seats. You’ve got T tops above, too—there isn’t a single creature comfort missing here! As for condition, it’s new. Everything works down to the rear defroster, the seats, carpet and door panels are perfect, as are the pedal pads and steering wheel. Again, it’s got 8,400 miles! You want paperwork? Sure, you’ll find other cars with the original owner’s manual packet and warranty stuff, but that’s child’s play for this car. How about the pre purchase inspection sheet, the bill of sale, original title application and odometer statement? As cool as that is, there’s an even cooler story to be told. Eugene Cleckler walked into his local dealership, Stokes Chevrolet, in Clanton AL to buy a new ’80 model. Quality control being what it was, the car must have been a real lemon, and Eugene wanted another. He badgered Stokes into taking the car back on trade and got another one ordered. This car arrived, and it was meant for Eugene from the start, but the odometer statement showed 303 miles at the time of delivery—he must have wanted to make sure this one was better than the last! Stokes hit him for $1500 for the trade up, and this car was a keeper. He drove it sparingly, and for whatever reason he stopped driving it shortly after he bought it. The car was brought north and resurrected here in Ohio with a trip to Preston Chevrolet in Burton, Ohio, with a $1600 service visit just a few months back. After an interesting start, a long nap and a quick rebirth the car’s ready to go!
