Car history:
1) Condition & Ownership History:
327/350 HP, 4 Speed, A/C, PW, PS, PB, Tilt/Tele Wheel. All original engine, transmission, drivetrain.
UPDATE 10-19: Just had a Corvette Specialty dealer check the car out for possible purchase. He reports car is all original except for carburetor, which is not a big deal. Key parts are all there for a 50 year old car! I believe I am the fourth owner of this car, and have owned it for 11 years. I have put only about 4K miles on it in that time. Believe it is about 1 out of 500 ever made that is Rally Red on Red interior with A/C and these options! 98,379 Original Miles believed based on service receipts. This Corvette has been professionally maintained by certified dealers during my ownership, and by many other dealers based on service receipts.
Regular Mobil 1 Oil changes. All receipts and records since 1975! Over $17K in repairs/upkeep in the last 11 years alone! Original owners manual, assorted paperwork and advertising from GM. Complete 1968 assembly manual. Original Tank Sticker! Original Radio that works! Added power antenna for cleaner look. 2 sets of keys. Clear title in hand. Never raced or abused. While in my care, this car was stored in a heated and air conditioned garage, keeping rubber solid and pliable materials intact from severe temps. Won many local car show trophies over the years due to its rarity and condition. I have really enjoyed this car. The prices on these cars make them a great value if you can find one that has been well cared for, and had the common costly issues corrected. which this one has had done! This car is rare and a lot of fun.
You can find a cheaper C3. but not in this condition with these options. By the time you do what it needs, you'll be well over what this car costs. Priced to sell.
Repairs/ Restoration/ Known Issues: Don't be afraid of 1968 issues. They've been cared for a long while ago. Parts are easy to get.
Power Steering added to car by previous owner @ 30+ years ago. Correct part kit for year but technically the car did not come with PS. I replaced Kit a few years back as original wore out. Does not hurt originality as bolt-on.
Complete new suspension and drive-train refurb @ 2,000 miles ago. I had every nut, bolt, link, bushing, shock, axle-shaft, replaced/reconditioned underneath this car. See Pics.
While suspension/drivetrain was out, had great access. I had the entire underside of car and every reachable piece of frame and steel treated in POR-15, and looks like I just did it. Frame was very solid then, but had basic surface rust. This treatment makes the fame shielded incredibly. See POR-15 link below. Tires in great shape. Lots of life left.
New exhaust @ 2,500 miles ago. New tunnel heat protection added under center console. Works better than when new. Car is cool inside compared to most C3s.
Tried all the switches and buzzers before auction, and everything working. Lights and wipers/doors all work as designed. Flat Door handle springs could use an update to make them 100 flush, but common issue and does not affect proper use.
Fiber optics all work. Vacuum lines all work. Even the windshield washer pump works! But hey..don't use it. It didn't clean the windshield very well when it was new, and you should be driving this car in bad weather anyway. Plus it's a bitch to add washer fluid to the bag as designed. Not one of GM's finest moments.
Engine was removed, stripped, cleaned, engine compartment detailed, parts painted, etc. @ 5 years ago.
A/C works and was recently recharged. These cars never blew COLD air like a new car, so don't have 2017 expectations, but it does work. A/C clutch turns like it should. Fan blows, Vents clear of debris.
Interior trim painted and touched up last year. T-Tops fit without issue. Rear Window removes without issue. Interior in near perfect shape. If you look hard enough you can see a few spots, but remember this is a near original interior! Seat covers were replaced once in records; center console (with power window switches) by me. Dash cap is pristine! Driver door missing trim piece left of lock. I have a NOS part that goes with car. Seat belts are hard to adjust. Just lap belts anyway, so not very useful.
There are 3 or 4 trim-nail head size paint chips in the nose and on the hood from rock chips. Have to be 3 feet away to see. Few other paint imperfections, and the car could use a good clay and wax job to really shine, but is in great shape considering the paint is at least 20 years since done. No receipt I could find that shows paint done (odd considering amount of records), but it MUST have been done since built. Otherwise I don't think the nose would look as it does (original cars typically show blisters across front nose where attached). Chrome and trim in excellent shape. Front passenger wheel trim ring could use replacement and shows some pitting. Cheap to replace.
Emergency brake does not work well. They never do. Don't spend $$ to fix it. Will just not work 250 miles later. Common C3 issue. No other known issues or problems apparent. No bid at starting $22,999 on October 21, 2017.
