Car history:
You don’t often hear the words “tastefully modified” and “Corvette” in the same
sentence, but this gorgeous 1974 Corvette nails it with subtlety and a dazzling
Laser Red paint job that completely transforms it. In case you haven’t noticed,
‘70s Corvettes are on a bit of a streak these days, with new Corvette fans turning
up almost daily and embracing the affordable fiberglass they represent. This one
doesn’t presume to be a show car, but instead is happy to be a clean, handsome
Corvette with a fantastic look that will definitely get noticed. When the Sting Ray
debuted, it wasn’t until years later that they could cook up paints to emphasize
those dramatic curves, and with the two-stage urethane Laser Red on this one, it
looks like a million bucks. Not quite candy apple red, but with a gold undertone
that almost makes it glow from within. And all of it was professionally refinished,
showing great gaps, straight panel work, and a final gloss that you’ll probably
admire yourself every time you park and walk away. Inside, it’s pretty much
stock, but the C3’s interior design has aged quite well, especially in basic black.
Fresh seat covers, new door panels, and correct carpets give it a fresh look, and
who can argue with a low 2-seat cockpit bristling with technology, even if it is
1970s technology? The gauges are crisp and clear, with a full array of auxiliary
gauges in the center stack as well as a newer AM/FM/CD stereo head unit that fits
perfectly. A/C and power windows compliment the standard T-tops, which also
include removable screens to help keep the sun out. Where the exterior is
extroverted and wild, the interior remains sophisticated and neatly done, not to
mention fully functional, so you shouldn’t be afraid to drive this car everywhere
you go. In 1974, the L48 delivered reasonable performance, and thanks to a few
choice upgrades, probably makes a few extra horsepower today. Of course, the
obvious upgrades are those gorgeous side pipes, which have a modern take on a
classic performance statement. Finned valve covers look like they were borrowed
from a Z/28 Camaro and the chrome air cleaner hides an Edelbrock 4-barrel
carburetor. Underneath, the chassis is clean and straight, just the way you’d want
it on a Corvette you planned to drive, and the TH350 3-speed automatic transmission
is a very willing and able dance partner out on the road. It’s amazing how much
room there is underneath with the exhaust system out of the way, and this one
really shows off how easy a life it’s had in a warm, dry climate. Recent equipment
includes shocks and end links on the sway bars, so handling is crisp, and with
classic Rally wheels, it looks just the way you’ve always dreamed your Corvette
would look. This is a great-looking Corvette that drives superbly, so you need not
make any apologies for falling in love. Call today!
