Car history:
Corvette fans know that the 1970 model year is particularly desirable as it was the lowest production year since 1962. Furthermore, according to info provided me, only 4473 units were produced with the 454c.i. engine option. This recently purchased survivor has been in garage storage for 8-10 years. Its ORIGINAL COLOR is Monza Red (paint code 974 on data plate) but has an older repaint. The engine is a service replacement unit from (I think) 1975 - the engine block has no v.i.n. but carries stamping #T1110TSC. The block casting number is 316958.
The engine starts well and runs with no lifter noise or smoke, carrying 40lbs of oil pressure. Transmission fluid is bright red and trans shifts normally. Charging system is functional, power steering works well, and (power) brakes feel fine. Brake calipers and steel lines have been replaced (although I'm not impressed by the quality of the line work). Headlight system and lights work, as does blower motor. Wheels are by TruSpoke and are in great shape. Tires (P235/70R15) are likewise in great shape with no dryrot evident. The speedometer works and the odometer shows 63K miles (I think it unlikely that they are actual). I have road tested the car for about 10 miles - it drives out OK and feels strong. Now for the negatives: This rare vehicle is tired - but very worthy of a full restoration. The radio and wipers don't work, the passenger side door opens with the inside handle only, the tach cable is broke/missing (distributor IS correct tach drive unit), and the engine oil pressure gauge is not functional (oil pressure was verified at 40psi with a temporary 'test' gauge). There is a transmission leak that will mark the floor overnight. Based on a floorjack inspection there are some frame rust issues (a Michigan car after all) but appears structually intact. We KNOW that, once restored, this car will command a PREMIUM price. Color from the trim plate. Built date is G22. 63,600 miles. May 5, 2008.
